It is often asserted that the purpose of education is to free the mind and the spirit. In reality, however, formal education tends to restrain our minds and spirits rather than set them free.
1.教育使学生的思考更加有效率,而不是不切实际的幻想
2.教育让学生想的更远
3.当然还存在一些问题

How to evaluate the effect of our contemporary formal education on the children' spirit and mind? As far as I concerned our formal education plays a considerable role in freeing the students' mind and spirit rather than restraining them.

To begin with, the formal education provides the students a stage in which they can exert their imagination not only freely but also efficiently; in other word make their free thinking to be the logical assumption rather than absurd fantasy. After the systemic learning in the school, the students might get the a general but accurate comprehension of the academic field, which would make their free thinking accord with the basic scientific thesis and teach them how to use their infinite thinking in the appropriate and necessary place. For example, after learning the law of the conservation of energy in physics, we would never image to make the perpetual motion machine, and use our imagination to discover a more efficient way to get the energy. Or after knowing that the different materials have the different atomic structures in the chemistry class, we would not dream to touch the stone and turn it into gold, and pay our attention to find some materials to replace the gold. So, by the scientific training in the school, students might find a more efficient way to make good use of their imagination.

On the second place, with the knowledge learned in the formal education, the students might have broader view to the whole world, which would lead to more freedom to their thinking. As one of my professors once said (and I paraphrase):" the knowledge we learned just serves as the ladder of our wisdom, the more knowledge we got, the further we can imagine." For example, consider Albert Einstein the greatest physicist in 20th century, who, depending on the influential physical knowledge, propounds the grand unified theory, the great assumption in physics. If he did not ever accept the formal education, how could he get that knowledge in physics, let alone advanced the assumption of grand unified theory.

On the other hand, it is undeniable that in our contemporary formal education system there are indeed some kinds of fact that restrained the students’ mind and spirit. For example, some of the education reformer pointed out recently that the textbooks for the students put the excessive attention on imparting the knowledge but not give the students enough freedom to utilize their infinite imagination to explore in the academic field. And also, in some countries, especially in the developing one, where the grade of the examinations is the only criterion to allocate the limited educational resources (in other word, the high grades amount to enough and better education), in order to get a considerable high grade, the students are forced to mechanically do the meaningless exercise, which seriously limits the students imagination.

In conclusion, generally speaking, the education sets students' mind and spirit free, though there are some unsatisfied aspect that limits restrains their thinking.

感觉你语言中有些常用搭配使用的不对,要重视。结构还是很不错的,难怪可以对我的文章提出那么准确的意见,呵呵
结尾再充实一下,是时间不够了吗?感觉我们两个可以取长补短,以后多拍。
