"High- profile awards such as the Nobel Prize are actually damaging to society because they suggest that only a few people deserve such recognition."


Will the high- profile awards damage the society because that only a few people deserve the recognition? In my view, due to their great effort and contribution towards the society, they deserve the awards, and this would promote the society by encouraging more people commit themselves to doing great effort for it. Meanwhile, there should be an organization with just and open judgment for the people's achievements.

To begin with, the minority people deserve the high- profile awards because of their great effort. The great achievement in any field is not easy to gain that persistent endeavor and firm determination is the basic requirement. Then the opportunity, intelligence, equipment, and even the cooperation with others are all indispensable for a successful fruition which is eligible for the high- profile awards. Only after numerous times of experiments, could Mrs. Courier found radium and polonium which was a great contribution to the development of the chemistry and the progress of the whole human beings, so Mrs. Courier deserved the high- profile awards-- the Noble Chemistry Prize. In short, the more they pay, the more they gain.

Furthermore, someone may allege that only the few people get the high- profile awards would cause damage towards the society. However, I hold the opposite opinion that the high- profile awards granting to the minority who contribute a lot to the society would promote the society. On one hand, the achievements themselves of the great people are precious treasure which could bring about great benefits for the human beings. Thomas, the American doctor won the Nobel medicine Prize for his discovery of the medulla transplantation, a method which could be used in the treatment of the disease leukaemia. This great success not only brings honor for Thomas himself but also the hope of millions of people suffering the pain of leukaemia. On the other hand, the high- profile awards also encourage more people to make arduous efforts in their fields. Every year, thousands of actors, actresses, directors and other movie makers try their best to produce excellent films for the audiences in order to touch the highest honor of Oscar. In short, because of the existence of the awards, the society gets promoted.

However, there should be a consummate organization taking charge of judgment with justice to decide who should ultimately deserve the high- profile awards. We can imagine that if the judgment is with inequity and bias, others people who originally should get the awards would lose interest and determination for continuing dedication in the research in his field, and it would be a great loss and even causing damage for the society. Thus, a fair procedure of judging the achievements is requisite.

To sum up, tee minority deserve the awards because of their great contribution, and under a just judgment, the high- profile awards would undoubtedly encourage more people doing great effort in their work and promoting the society.

body2里面科学家的acheivement对社会的贡献这个例子不能用来证明prize对社会的益处吧。。。除非你assume“奖项促成了这些acheivements”（当然也有一点点帮助，但不是主要帮助，科学家不是为了拿奖才做研究的）
我写的是这些奖项引起社会的广泛关注，从而使普通人了解科学进展，有助于科普；另一方面吸引投资者的眼球，加快这些新的科学突破转化为实际应用的速度……

我每次都是在具例子凑字，推理的部分很少，那些东西有话不知道怎么用英语说。。。唉~~~ets据说又不怎么看example，主要看reasoning……
