I agree with the speaker’s broad assertion that the major cities in which the nation’s cultural traditions are preserved and generated should receive the financial support in order to thrive. However, in my opinion, although many traditional relic are preserved in major cities, more traditions are conserved in the small towns and villages which have the more pure culture, thus financial support should also put in these places.

      Are the nation’s culture traditions primarily preserved and generated in major cities that the government must support? The speaker commends so. In my opinion, although some culture traditions are kept down in these cities owing to some environmental and historical factors, the distinct culture of a country are more conserved in the rural towns and villages which indeed need the subsidize of the government.  

    Admittedly, a multiple of cities are sited in the places where the weather is suitable, the land is fertilize and the supply of water is sufficient such as Paris, New York, Beijing and so on. Along the development of thousands or hundreds of years, generation by generation of outstanding artists get together in the major cities and created mass classical artwork. For instance, the summer palace in Beijing, china, represents the highest technique in the Qing dynasty, where man-made lake and garden are arranged in delicacy exerting a special sentiment and complex feeling representing the Chinese philosophy of the nature and human united as one. Also, the statue of liberty in New York stands for hundreds years inspiring generation by generation of individuals to fight for their happiness, liberty, and democracy, which represents the spirit of American culture and tradition. In short, It is in the major cities traditions and cultures accumulated for many years which stand for the values and thought that need financial support to thrive.

     However, the major cities are also the place where fashion and cultures of other countries interlace. Just take a sweep look of today’s modern cities, we can perceive that they are in the same trend --- mass skyscrapers, heavy traffic, waves of shopping and consuming. More and more traditions gradually disappeared. The modern cities are controlled by large multinationals and the fashion incline are changing frequently. Also, with the development of transportation and tolerant of culture among countries, multi-cultures coexist in the major cities and thrive. Thus, if we put too much many in the major cities, we can not attain our goal that preserve our culture, but generate the modern fashion and other cultures.

      In deed, the towns and villages preserve more pure traditions and culture that the major cities because they are less influenced by the modern fashion and changed a little. For instance, most of Chinese distinct cultural traditions such as traditional songs, customs, ceremonies, and folk art burgeon in the small towns and villages. In the traditional ceremonies such as Spring Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, varies activities which come dawn from the ancient times and not changed much are held to celebrate in rural regions in china.

     In sum, it is rural regions that preserve more distinct tradition culture than the large cities which inclined to be a stew pot thriving the global culture and fashion trends. Thus, the government would not ignore the importance of the small town of preserving culture and tradition, and support these places to keep the tradition and come forward.
