To begin with, learning arts can provide us not only the correct way to appreciate wonderful works made by artists, but also give us the ability to find beauty around us and enjoy natural scenes, different building and great interests. Without certain knowledge of arts, we can only feel relax and happy while we are watching a film but ignore the ideas of the director wanted to express by it and never think about the problems and emotions reflected by the films. We may laugh at people's behaviors and words in the film, but never establish a relationship between the real society and the film. Learning knowledge can give us a different view. Given the correct way of appreciating this kind of films, watchers would put more foci on the process of the story and the interrelation between different people, but not just the result of the story. Moreover, with enough knowledge about arts, it is possible for us to tell the ideas and values of a society which are reflected by its buildings. For example, the traditional building of China shows that family is quite important in Chinese ideas. Arts can even give us ability to find beauty in our daily life. Therefore, arts can offer us new eyes to look at the world.

Turn to the field of philosophy. Philosophy, separated from natural science at the beginning of the last century, shows the relationship between different issues and people. It make us to consider all aspects of an events before making a decision. Philosophy prevents our ideas from going too extreme, and tells us the importance of dialectic. When we refer to a famous person, for example, Charles De Gaulle, the first president of France, we mainly consider that he is a good leader as Free France which was led by him freed France from the regime of Germany. Yet consider his policies later, we should admit that some policies he pushed harmed the French society at some level. Philosophy prevents us from idolizing the famous few and let us be justice and fair. Therefore, learning philosophy can make us consider all aspects of an event and also the circumstances before we make a conclusion or a determination.

From different academic disciplines, we learn different methodologies and knowledge. Intertwine them, we can inspect the world with enlightened thought. "The purpose of study is not just absorbing knowledge, but enlighten your ideas and give you new eyes to look at the world. When you graduate from the university, it is possible that you forget all knowledge about you major or minor courses for it is not related to your further jobs or you simply do not need them in your daily life. But your enlighten ideas and your ways to inspect the world would never be forgotten. When you graduate from the university, you may find that the world is very different in your eyes. If this is the case, I will be very happy to say that our goals have been achieved. It is our responsibility to give your all new eyes to look at the world." Said once by the president of my university (and I paraphrase). From his words, the purpose of education is to provide us new view to the world.

In sum, arts give us the ability to appreciate beauty around us, philosophy make us to look at the world in a dialectic way. The study of academic disciplines not only gives us fundamental knowledge, but also provides us different eyes to inspect the world and enjoy our life.
