Such nonmainstream areas of inquiry as astrology, fortune-telling, and psychic and paranormal pursuits play a vital role in society by satisfying human needs that are not addressed by mainstream science.
------正文------ 493 words
Even though science has developed to a high level today, there are still several nonmainstream areas of inquiry, such as astrology, fortune-telling, and psychic and paranormal pursuits. Some people consider these nonmainstream areas as a vital role in society because they can satisfy human needs that are on addressed by mainstream science. But I disagree this conclusion. Only temporary comfort and satisfaction can the nonmainstream areas give people. so they can not play a vital role in society.
The mainstream science requires very logical deduction and induction, and needs authentic evidence. It seems to be hard to understand and stand high above the life. Common people maybe often think that science can not satisfy their needs. However, the nonmainstream areas of inquiry, whose principles are also not easy to understand, can give people mentally comforts or "explain" some strange phenomenon simply. As a common individual, would you like to understand the complex universe with the recondite physical rules or only listen some funny stories relating with you life? Do you feel happy when hear some fortune-teller tell you that you have a wealthy and powerful fortune? These satisfaction are all not addressed by mainstream science. Furthermore, since there are still many unresolved problems by mainstream science for the limit of theory or technique, nonmainstream areas are give some so-called reasonable explanations for these mysteries, such as UFO, ghost and other paranormal phenomenon. At this time, the nonmainstream areas of inquiry can meet human needs.
But in fact, the nonmainstream areas of inquiry are not based on the reality, so their results are untrustworthy. They can only satisfy human mental needs temporarily and can not help people indeed. For instance, some branchs of astrology claim that each star is corresponding to a lived person. But we know, the average life of human being is only seventy years, while star's life is billions of years. How can they correspond to each other? The astrology is just a joke. There are similar cases of the fortune-telling. If one told you that you would be wealthy later, you would be wealthy definitely without any effort? Would money fly to you automatically? Thus, if one believed the nonmainstream areas completely, even used their results to direct his or her life, it were very harmful.
Actually, as the development of mainstream science, the mysterious phenomenon will be well explained one by one. Nowadays scientists can tell us that many UFOs are the images of plains, balloons, laser, and so on. Some so-called ghosts are just the hallucination of nervous people, or the misunderstanding to some photographs or videos, even fabricated by human. Of course the nonmainstream areas can satisfy people's curiosity of these mysteries temporarily, but there is no use for us to understand the world.
In sum, the nonmainstream areas of inquiry are able to satisfy human mental needs temporarily, but not help people indeed. So they do not and can not play a vital role in society. |
