Nowadays, the influence of technology has permeated into every aspect of our society, revolutionizing our ways of living, working and learning. While the increasingly heavy reliance on technology has brought about comfortableness, efficiency and accuracy, it provokes apprehension among some people. They are worried about whether the ability of humans to think for themselves will deteriorate resulted (results) from frequent employment of technology, which, in my opinion, is unnecessary.
Through relying on technology, we are now able to extricate ourselves from tedious and laborious work, which provide us more time and opportunities for more ingenious work. For example, before the advent of computer, we need to perform calculations by hand or abacus. Now with the aid of computer, we are able to solve more complicated arithmetic problem faster and more accurately. With the time and effort saved by using computer, we can shift our focus on more intellectual work, such as modeling and extrapolation. Regarding this, some may rise(raise) their concern that our ability to perform arithmetic calculation will deteriorate as the heavy use of computer virtually deprives us of the opportunity of practicing it. This may be true. However, an individual’s time and energy are limited. It is neither reasonable nor practical for mathematicians to prove every theory of numbers by calculating themselves simply on the ground of retaining their ability to perform calculation. They will lose valuable time they can otherwise spend in postulating or proving more theories. In viewing the history of contemporary science, the utilization of computer contributes significantly to almost all distinctive achievements. Therefore, the heavy reliance on technology actually creates more opportunities for us to engage in more thoughtful work.
Not only technology emaciates us from those tedious and/or unintellectual works, but also does it pose (post)more problems for us to ponder on. It is because, technology empowers us to extend our boundary of knowledge and the more we explore, the more we will find we do not know. With the help of technology, scientist are now able to decipher all the human genes, which at the same time rise a profusion of question to be asked such as what genes human share with other mammals, what genes determines (determine)or influence people's disposition and habit, what genes can cause inheritable disease. As with biologists, astronomists face the same challenge. With the development of rockets and space shuttles, telescopes, human now has extended its vision and track beyond the earth. Accompanying the proliferation of discoveries and breakthroughs are more perplexing problems left for astronomists to think about, for instance, will plants and animals grow faster in outer space and why there is some element that can only be found in moon but not in Earth. Without the development resulted from heavy reliance on technology (of the technogy), scientists would never have a chance to reflect on those questions which invoke further and more profound thinking.
Furthermore, the employment of technology itself provokes people’s intensive meditation. The history of mankind tells that technology is a two-edged weapon. While technology can accelerate the development of our society, it can also be injurious and pestilent. It is putative that we live in the shadow of nuclear weapons we own which can extinguish human being for many times. Yet at the same time while haunted by the energy shortage problem, the future course of our society is illuminated by the feasibility of utilizing nuclear reactions for electricity generation. How can we make use of technology to speed up the advance of our society while curb its adverse effects so as to prevent it from harming or even endangering our civilization? This is not a simply question, which requires people from many fields of study to envisage and think about in different perspectives.
Thus rather than deteriorating our ability to think for ourselves, technology help to strengthen our capacity to think by providing us more opportunities and more questions to contemplate.

Overall feeling:
1. Overall response is good with covincing examples.
2. I am not sure whether you can complete this within 45 mins, if can not, some contents from the second paragraph can be extracted which will not deteriorate the whole response. |
