145 Some people say that advertising encourages us to buy things that we really do not need. Others say that advertisements tell us about new products that may improve our lives. Which viewpoint do you agree with? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.


With the advent of popular media, such as newspaper, magazines, televisions, radios, people can buy products under the guidance of advertising more convenient, efficient and low costing than ever before. The specific reasons why I support advertisements encourage us buy products to improve our living quality are listed below.

Convenience is the most advantage that advertising brings to us when we try to buy something we need. When we plan our shopping scheme, in almost every case, we first check out the advertising information related to the right product we want to find out which one is the most proper good for us to choose, and then we decide. Imagine, without advertisement, it is a boring and all-consuming task for us to get information from so many products. Without advertisement, we may probably go to every marketplace and exhibition only to find out their products do not meet our goal. It is waste of time and energy if we do not obtain help from advertisement.

Secondly, advertisements make our shopping behavior more efficient. We do not need to see every product to compare them to find our which one performs best and cost least. The only thing we should do is comparing them through the advertisements. Advertisements not only provide us the basic description of each product, but also highlight the advantage of different types of products, which eventually help us make our decision.

Moreover, advertisements are easy to acquire. We can see them at walls, from televisions and newspapers, which only cost us little time to read and get information of products from them.

I must say that too many advertisements bring some trouble when we only find information of the products we need, but this point cannot allay my strong supporting to the view that advertisements introduce products that improve our lives.
