Nowadays, as more and more families have only one child in China, people have come to question whether the single-child-family will do good to their children. Personally, I am convinced that, for the children themselves, it will be better to have several brothers and sisters.
Apparently, the only child in a family will receive much more care from his/her parents than the children with several brothers and sisters. Since the couple has only one child, they tend to care about him/her as much as they can, with the result that their child enjoy a pretty high living standard. I can think of no better illustration than the status quo of my country, China. Currently most, if not all, parents regard the education of their sons or daughters as one of their most important investments. Thus, increasing children, even those in primary schools, have accesses to the high-tech products such as computers and MP3 players.
There are, however, some disadvantages of the only child. He/she may probably be spoiled in their families. Today there is a saying that the only child is the "little emperor" of a family, from which we can see that the only child knows little about responsibility or obligation he/she should commit, because what he/she is acquainted with in everyday life is to receive everything he/she wants from his/her parents. Moreover, the only child will have less oportunities than those with brothers and sisters to practise getting along with other people and to understand how important it is to be a generous and kind-hearted citizen. There, this demonstrates the advantages of the children with several brothers and sisters.
Besides, children raised in a multi-children-family will have more opportunities to communicate with and to get help from their siblings, especially when faced with difficulties. Undoubtedly, there is a generation gap between children and parents. Every so ofter, children will encounter the situation that only friends of similar ages can help them out. Hence, their brothers and sisters are the best friends they can refer to. For example, if a boy has a problem with his lover, his sisters may be the best teacher he have to consult with.
Admittedly, children with brothers and sisters will somethimes have less pocket money, compared with those only-children. But the advantages during their childhoods will have a more significant influence on them, from which they can benefit a lot in their lives.
To sum up, I will vote for having children with several brothers and sisters. |
