In the era of rapid social and technological change society leading to more and more intense competition, the purpose of education—to develop the personality of individual and the significance of life to himself and to others, calls for a balance between individual education and standard education.


Individual education is necessary in order to help students to reach their personal potentials in pursuing their own dreams. As a proverb says," interest is the best teacher." Only when a man realizes his own needs and interests can he devote himself to the cause he is aiming at. With the determination to success, the hardworking and most important of all, the help of specifically designed education which provides indispensable information and methods, he can finally reach his dreams. Ding Junhui, the World Pool champion, is such an example. When Ding Junhui was young, his father who discovered his inherent zeal and potential in pool, provided him with specifically designed individual education and training, thus made him a world pool champion. What would happen if Ding took the conventional education to go to school as his classmates? No one can imagine ,but one thing there is sure one of the best pool players in the world would diminish.

On the other hand, the standard education serves as an important factor in developing a complete person. The wide range of knowledge provided by standard education enable people, especially those who are only interested in certain aspects, to become more sophisticated and knowledgeable. Also In the process of education, some life skills such as analysis, creative problem-solving, logical thinking, are gradually imparted. With these skills, a person can handle whatever is presented in his life. Maybe that's why Ding Jonquil once said that he may go to college one day.

In addition, standard education and only standard education, helps a person to build a firm base, which is crucial for his future development. Some people, maybe due to their lack of experience or limit knowledge, have a vague destination or an aim which will not fit them in the future. With a firm base, the person can choose whatever suits him when the right time comes. The system to choose the major in senior in some universities in China is a good example. In the first two years of university, students can take time to build a firm base for his future selection. With such a base, he can easily take what he likes. Therefore, standard education plays an important role in a person's future development.

Without standard education, a person may not be able to handle whatever life presents. Without specifically designed education, some geniuses in certain aspects may never come. Thus, we should emphasize individual education as well as standard education in order to make education more effective for everyone.
