It is quite useful and necessary for every nation to support the development of a globe university designed to engage students in solving the world problems. Besides, we must realize some limits of the global university.
A global university does great benefit to the process of settling some global problems--no matter social, cultural or scientific. First, as human civilization developing fast, new problems-- which could only be solved by the association of all nations-- appear continuously. The reason is commonly that: the solving of some complicated problems need plenty of fund and research or it is linked with the interests of different countries. Take the ozone sphere problem for example. The tendency of the declining of the ozone sphere put the health and even lives of quantities of people into the threat by the high level of X-ray radiation. Nevertheless, to stop this tendency and further recover the ozone sphere, we need the attendance of every country in the world: their contribution of experts, finance and also promise to stop using some chemicals which do damage to the ozone sphere. Second, the global strength would double the efficiency through the share of diverse information and resources--just like the measures towards global corruption: if every country together order the arrest of crimes and restrict the transfer of illegal incomes, it seems that this crime will dramatically diminish. As a result, in a global university, the students and the faculties could do research on those annoying problems together and might reach the possible methods more easily.
However, we have to realize that not every global problem could be solved by the association of the world-- in other words, due to different culture and religion, different nation may have different or sometimes even opposite opinion on certain objects. For example, towards the problem of euthanasia, there are basically two different views: some open-minded countries such as Holland suggest that the euthanasia is beneficial for human beings, while in some religionary nations this deed obeys their traditions or even laws. So before we put emphasis on the advantages of the global university, we have to recognize that some differences in tradition and culture might block the process of solving the world problems.
Additionally, it is unwise for every nation to overlook its own domestic problems before trying to solve the global ones-- if a nation failed to put the money foremost in some indispensable items such as drought and famine, the effort to support the development of a global university probably results nothing but the result of the sharpening of the domestic conflict or even disasters-- this is just like building a skyscraper without solidifying its foundation. So before turning attention to global crisis, we must make sure our native people have been taken care of, as the preparation for further projects.
In conclusion, to better contribute to the settlement of the world problems, we should courage the foundation of global universities, with the comprehension of its certain limits and the settlement of local problems as a prerequisite.
