Should government focus more on solving the immediate problems of today in comparison with the anticipated problems of the future? The speaker claims so. Nevertheless, I tend to believe that to be an effective and responsible for the future, a government should never hesitate to invest in the anticipated problems as well as pressing problems nowadays. To further shore up my viewpoint, I would present the analysis in details as below.

To begin with, it is government's undeniable duty to find, analyze and eventually solve the problems that severely disturb the public in the present. Every government, labeling themselves as the servant of their people, would like to solve the immediate problems since those problems usually not simply menace their people but pose great threat to stability of a whole nation. To understand this point, one merely needs to look at those social problems, such as disease, war, unemployment, poverty and so forth. There are so many people who live in the same sky with us be deprived of lives because of AIDS; people who are innocent involved in the war and lose their home; people who lack basic skills to find a job and thereby committing crimes; people in Africa who cannot get enough food die in virtually every minutes. In face of these scenes, government should never be relaxed to invest other things including the future but to solve those problems first as possible as they can. So long as those problems can be controlled or disappear in a nation, the country can go ahead smoothly with the other problems being considered and solved.

While it is true that solving immediate problems would greatly benefit people today, we should also never lose sight of the problems that may take place in the near future for the sake of our descendants. Take the problems of environment for example, this problem, which have upset human during the process of industrialization can date to the beginning of Industry Revolution. However, no one in the previous times have recognized the importance of solving these problem for us, the ascendants, which leave innumerous disasters today, such as hole of Ozone layer, Global warming, acid rain, etc. History has taught us this lesson; hence，there is no reason to repeat the similar fallacies and avoid our responsibility toward the future generation. In that sense, government also assumes a significant role in the sustainable development of a nation.

In fact, what is interesting and paradoxical is that today and future are not inherently contradictory. Instead, they may supplement to each other and go for a same goal, that is, the welfare of humankind. Government may expect better and also exciting outcome of not only focusing on the immediate problems but also trying to solve the anticipated problems of the future. For example, when it comes to the population problem throughout the world, it would be better for government to promulgate laws or regulations to limit the exponential increase of population while at the same time exploring the outer space for a new place or a planet suitable for humankind to live. In that case, people would feel more assured, and that would help us to build a more orderly, peaceful and harmonious society.

To sum up, from the discussion above, we can confidently draw a conclusion that although the pressing problems nowadays are so important and urgent and deserve a priority from government, the attempts to solving anticipated problems would also benefit humankind a lot. For that matter, a government, especially a responsible and capable government should keep a balance between today and future.
