Salaries of teachers can be determined by many different facts. Some people argue that teachers should be paid according to how much their students learn, while many other people oppose this point. First of all, how much students can learn cannot be accurately judged. Some people think examinations can best evaluate how much a student can learn. But taking all facts into consideration, this point is only partially right. Results of examinations can be determined（influenced） by some internal factors, such as mood and health conditions. It is difficult to take all factors into account to figure out how much the student actually has learnt. Examinations are only one case. Other methods which intend to get an exact result can also not(also cannot ) be regarded as perfect methods.

Second, how much a student can learn is not entirely determined（concluded） by how much the teacher has taught. For one thing, many students read books that are not assigned by their teachers and they learn a lot of extra knowledge. And students’ quality and capacity vary from person to person. Suppose there are three persons listen(listening) to the same professor talking about the same thing in the same classroom, but the result may be(may turn out that) one person can almost recite the speech, while the other two just cannot understand anything. So teachers’ salaries cannot be judged in this way because how much students learn cannot be determined all(entirely) by teachers’ factors.

If teachers’ salaries are determined in this way, teacher will turn to cater to students’ taste in teaching. In order to get higher wages, some teachers may just teach what students want to learn and do not teach knowledge that are required by textbooks. This will lead to the fact that students can not attain all the essential knowledge their(they) need for future, and the principle of education is also altered.

In short, how much students learn is an abstract concept and cannot determine how much teacher should earn. Therefore I reinforce my point of view that teachers should not be paid according to how much their students learn.

With the fast development of computer science, internet begins to play a very important role in people’s life. Some people think internet can benefit a lot because much useful information is available on the internet. But some others oppose this point due to the negative effects of the internet. Personally speaking, advantages of internet outweigh disadvantages of it.
  
   First of all, internet has been the major source of most of our information. Since the birth of search engine, people can attain information they want in a few seconds just by typing in some key words. In this way, information, searching becomes more efficient, and people can attain much more information in the same time than before. Besides this, modern containers of information, such as electronic books and databases, can be spread much more quickly than other methods, for example compact disks. Therefore, as people can get much information through it, internet is very significant in people’s daily life.

   Internet has also improved people’s ways of communication. A particular case of this is electronic mails, which is a symbolic application of internet. In the past, ordinary mails were the main tool of communication, but the long time delivering them made sending letters one of the slowest ways. After telephones, including both stable telephones and mobile phones, were invented, communication became much more convenient than before. But the relatively high price of make calls limits the calling times-especially long distance calls-for ordinary people. Nowadays since electronic mails are much faster than ordinary mails and cheaper than making telephone calls, communication has improved gigantically due to the great development of internet technology.

   Admittedly, negative effects really exist because much unreliable information is also provided and harmful websites do great harm on children. But since scientific technology can greatly promote people’s living standard, I reinforce my standpoint that advantages of internet outweigh the disadvantages.

A new high school

It has been announced that a new high school will be built near our community. Some people support this idea because any good suggestion on education should be supported and a nearer school is much better than a far away one, while a few people concern with the negative effects. Personally speaking, advantages of building a new high school near our community outweigh the disadvantages.

  First of all, education is a fundamental task crucial for generations to come. If younger generations lack enough education, the nation will surely comedown in the future. Take the Cultural Revolution which happened in China in the 1960’s and 1970’s for instance. Almost all the students were misled by some reactionary to disturb classes and attack their teachers by writing so-called Majuscule Papers which were filled with fake scandals about teachers. Hardly any single school was operated normally during these years, and education of that generation was gigantically delayed. As a result, the nation’s economy reversed for an estimated ten years. Therefore, education is so significant that any good proposal of education should be supported.
   
   Building a high school near our community can also reduce the possibility of traffic accidents that happen on students. Some of the high school students in our community have to ride bicycles or take buses to go to school which is located about five kilometers away. The other day one of them hit an old lady when he hurried to ride to school. It was ten minutes from class in the morning but riding to school takes about half an hour. This case is not a rare one. Accidents happen on students constitute a large proportion of all. If a high school is built near our community, this problem will surely be solved.

   Moreover, the new high school will bring about new bookstores and other kind of shops. Surely these shops will provide more jobs to the society and make our community more perspective. Besides students, other people will also benefit a lot from these shops due to their convenience. Therefore, the new high school is a good accelerator of our community’s economy.

   Certainly, negative effects of the new school such as more noise can not be neglected. But advantages of the new school are more obvious. So I reinforce my point of view that building a new high school near our community is a good choice.

Some people believe that students should be given one long vacation each year. Others believe that students should have several short vacations throughout the year. Which viewpoint do you agree with? Use specific reasons and examples to support your choice.

Students are usually given several vacations of different length each school year. Some people think there should be only one long vacation each year, but some other people oppose this viewpoint. Personally speaking, several short vacations are more suitable to most students.

   First of all, giving several short vacations can help students relax. In the regular year plan of my school, four vacations are given throughout the year. Regardless of the length of these vacations, all of them are breaks between two periods of studying each of which lasts about three months. Since students are more energetic in the next period and they do not feel the vacations are

too short, this distribution of vacations gets a good outcome. This is a good example of advantages of several short vacations.
  
    Furthermore, short vacations do not make students forget too much of what they have learnt. Recently the Chinese Education Research Center proclaimed one of investigations about high school vacations. By giving tests to examinees on different days during a forty-day-long vacation, it is believed that scores of the test, which is related to what students had learnt last semester, are greatly affected by the date on which they take the test-with each ten-day extension, the score becomes lower for four percent. Therefore in order to link up what students have learnt and what they will learn, vacations should be given shorter.

    Admittedly, students can be beneficial from one single long vacation if they intend to do a continuous and large project. But the advantages of several short vacations outweigh those of one long vacation since former ones are suitable to more people. Therefore, I reinforce my standpoint that students should be given short vacations throughout the year.

Some universities require students to take classes in many subjects. Other universities require students to specialize in one subject. Which is better? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

Nowadays universities offer many different subjects to students. In some universities students are required to take several subjects, but some others require students to specialize on one subject. Personally speaking, taking several different subjects is better than specializing in one single subject.

   First of all, several different subjects are helpful in enlarging students’ knowledge. Suppose a student is major in international relationship. If he takes economics, politics, history and other subjects that are related to his major at the same time, he will find these subjects very helpful in studying international relationship. They will provide sufficient background knowledge for studying his major. As it can help broaden students’ view and make them more able in their majors, taking several subjects is a good choice.

   Furthermore, a limited extension of study may lead to educated ignorance. A particular example is one of my neighbors who graduated from a very good institute of technology. Although he did very well on his major of computer science and was employed by a very promising company, he lacks basic knowledge of some other subjects. When we were talking about traveling the other day, he even did not know where Australia is! As far as I know, he only took computer science class in university and working with computers almost everyday. This case is not rare. There are millions of bookworms who is only able at one subject in our society. Probably requiring many different subjects will solve this problem.

   Last but not least, it will not be much too tedious in studying different subjects. Some of the science major students often sign up for some other subjects that do not relate too much with their majors because they think if they only study their major intensively, that subject will probably appear quite boring and tedious. If they take some other small and interesting courses such as some of the physical education courses, they can relax themselves while earning credits. So taking different subjects can make students’ lives richer and more colorful.

   Admittedly, taking only one subject is suitable to some students, such as those who only need to master their majors like Research on Chinese Antique Characters. But for most students, the advantages of taking several subjects are more obvious. Therefore, I reinforce my standpoint that taking several subjects is a better choice.

In modern society, people should be able both to work together with other people and to work independently. But it is often difficult for me to answer which one is more important. Generally, two kinds of occasions can be taken into consideration.

    First, when people are doing on a gigantic project, such as an earthquake rescue, or other tasks that require many people, the ability to cooperate is more important. A good example of this is playing volleyball. In every excellent hit, at most two players pass the ball in turn to make the ball at the most comfortable position for the attacker to hit. It is relatively easier for the last player to hit the ball at a good place, while the work of the first two persons is more difficult and important. When a team is judged to be an excellent team, it often has a very fluent and perfect cooperation. Not only in playing volleyball, but also in other sports and other important and complex tasks is the ability to work with other people more important than to work independently.

    However, other circumstances in which people have to work individually also exist. In this case, the ability to work independently seems more important. Take chess, which is another very popular sport, for example. The player cannot get any help from others when playing chess, so a player must develop the ability to solve problems all by himself.
