traffic jams are now a major problem in most cities. However, it seems that people are not prepared to give up their cars and use other forms of transport.

Discuss the reasons for these two situations and suggest how the situation might be improved or resolved.

Almost everybody in the city is bothered by traffic jams today, not to mention the invisible cost in pollution. It has already become one of the hottest issues to be paid attention to.

In densely populated urban areas crowded with vehicles, congested transportation simply causes serious results. Those who regularly spend 20 minutes in cars with nothing to do suffer a great loss in money and time if the resources are accumulated day by day. What's more, the gas discharged, proved to be bad for health, is being breathed all the time and all the way. Obviously there's no way for city residents to put up with the horrible situation.

However, it's quite surprising that people still choose to stick to their. The consideration for social status is probably the main reason. Successful officers and businessmen often pay a large amount of money on expensive cars with famous brands, only to show off their taste and wealth. In addition, cars, which are quite costly hard goods, would not be abandoned easily once being bought. It's impossible to persuade drivers to lock their favored vehicles in garages, which is certainly a waste of money. And as the supplement to private cars, public transportation is too crowded to function effectively. Just imagine being pushed and pulled like a young plant in a gale, way to work everyday turns into a torture.

It's a little bit uneasy to change the current situation. Still I'm quite optimistic, for a bunch of measures can be done in several aspects. Among them the one I recommend first is to reduce the number of personal-owned cars. And the most efficient way is to charge car-buyers together with car-owners, provided that they are going to designated zones at given times. But basically the urban transportation system is to be improved both in public transportation and in road conditions. It'll not only appeal people to go by bus and subway more frequently, but also greatly enlarge the turnover of the whole city.
