          TOPIC
ISSUE4 No field of study can advance signigicatly unless outsider bring their knowledge and experience to that field of study.
--------------------------------------
TIME 62MIN
--------------------------------------
OUTLINE

------------------------------------
The speaker asserts that only when a discipline borrows the knowledge and experience from another field can it advance significantly. In my view this extreme position misses the point entirely. Whether all the fields should use other knowledge and experience in order to make progress must be determined on a case-by-case basis.

On the one hand, I admit that through associating with the outsiders and take advantage of their emergent technology and fruitions, the traditional disciplines can expand their sphere of researching in a much broader scope. An example that is well developed to demonstrate my point is that when geognosy and the most advanced technology of spaceflight met, the geophysics came into being. It is the physics of the earth and its environment, including the physics of fields such as meteorology, oceanography, and seismology. Under which we can have a better chance to understand our atmosphere around us. Furthermore, consider biochemistry, which is produced by mixing biology and chemistry. It is not only does merits in our health condition but also provide us a way to lead a better life.

On the other hand, however, there is no denying the fact that not all the field of study make progress through the knowledge and experience provided by other fields. A case in point is that Newton's Law of Gravitation and Einstein's Theory of Relativity. Those huge revolutionary advancements are not triggered by borrowing knowledge and experience but utterly genius' flash of wisdom, little of which is borrowed from other subjects. Those subjects indeed are the ones which need more thoughts and imagination independently. Furthermore, I insist that most of the disciplines need to build their structures at their own to begin with, the rest of work are the ornament and decorations which are borrowed from other fields. In other words, a discipline should develop its own way to make a structure, the outsider's experience and knowledge are the ornament and decoration to make it better, if necessary. If there is no basic theory of a field, no mention of the other field's advises.

Furthermore, as for factors contributing to an academic subjects' significant breakthrough, they include many apart form sharing the outsider's intelligence, such as the long-term academic accumulation, the appropriate social and economic support, the good timing birth of geniuses and so on. Take the emergence of Internet for instance; Bill Gate makes the compelling breakthrough not only by him and his cooperation with others, but also the very timing of the mass communication need by the public. Both the factors contribute to the success of Internet.

To sum up, I admit that different disciplines are interrelated and that the knowledge of one field can shed light on the studies of other fields. However, in most cases, a field can not have a mirage of making a successful fruit by not only using others’ garden but also seeds. What sage ways is that build the basic elements in a field and use other fields’ experience and knowledge appropriately; this is the way to the successful achievements.

The speaker asserts that only when a discipline borrows the knowledge and experience from another field can it advance significantly. In my view this extreme position misses the point entirely. Whether all the fields should use other knowledge and experience in order to make progress must be determined on a case-by-case(什么意思,没查到) basis.

The speaker asserts that only when a discipline borrows the knowledge and experience from another field can it advance significantly. In my view this extreme position misses the point entirely. Whether all the fields should use other knowledge and experience in order to make progress must be determined on a case-by-case basis.

On the one hand, I admit that through associating with the outsiders and take advantage of their emergent(mature更恰当) technology and fruitions, the traditional disciplines can expand their sphere of researching in a much broader scope. An example that is well developed to demonstrate my point is that when geognosy and the most advanced technology of spaceflight met, the geophysics came into being. It is the physics of the earth and its environment, including the physics of fields such as meteorology, oceanography, and seismology(这一句要说什么?). Under which we can have a better chance to understand our atmosphere around us. Furthermore, consider biochemistry, which is produced by mixing biology and chemistry. It is not only does merits in our health condition but also provide us a way to lead a better life.(not only...but also...

On the other hand, however, there is no denying the fact that not all the field of study make progress through the knowledge and experience provided by other fields. A case in point is that Newton's Law of Gravitation and Einstein's Theory of Relativity. Those huge revolutionary advancements are not triggered by borrowing knowledge and experience but utterly genius' flash of wisdom, little of which is borrowed from other subjects.(例子不是很恰当,例如Newton将数学微积分引入) Those subjects indeed are the ones which need more thoughts and imagination independently. Furthermore, I insist that most of the disciplines need to build their structures at their own to begin with, the rest of work are the ornament and decorations(ornament和decoration同一个意思吧?) which are borrowed from other fields. In other words, a discipline should develop its own way to make a structure, the outsider's experience and knowledge are the ornament and decoration to make it better,(这不是正在支持作者的结论(without outsider's experience, there would be no progress in a field)么?) if necessary.

Both the factors contribute to the success of Internet.(例子有点偏)

Thanks!
