Nowadays, as the development of technology, TV enables us to learn knowledge and kinds of information through an instant and convenient way. In advent, the television plays an important role in our daily life from which some people deduce that” reading books is not as important as it once was.” But I insist, despite the advantages of TV, reading books is still important and indispensable.

To begin with, it may go without saying the important role of TV in our daily life. Great changes it brings to our style and prosperity of life influence us gradually since the advent of the television. The colorful and varied shows on TV entertain the populace with absorbing jocular elements which alleviate the pressure of people after their burdensome work. Young boy and faddish girls could keep and catch the pace of latest fashion current of which changes much of their life style and prediction of purchasing. Moreover, the constant and prosperous news on TV provide people quantity of useful information, and we can get it firsthand only by television. The event 911 may be the paradigmatic example of TV’s important role played. With the TV live on the locale of crashing, people all over the world can get the information immediately. It’s the function which other ways like written documentary can’t replace.

However, we should not neglect the unreplaced functions book brings to us when enjoying the TV programs. Although television offers some diversity of knowledge, these are only the basic knowledge while the deeply ones in science, politics, culture and art and so on need us to find answers from books. Because the diversified audience range from a grandparent to a child, from a person who is enthusiastic in music to the one who is interested in debating politics and different programs range from live concert to talk show, the television can not involve much of the profound knowledge of the fields. While the merit of reading books appear in violent and lovely contrast to the shortcomings of television. People can resort to the categories according to the content of books to find out the elusive and deep questions. Take an example of myself, days ago I hear the introduction of clone which I cannot get more from the TV program, however, when I go to the written book on the clone of biology, the principles and theory are clear to me. Books do have an unplaced effect in our daily life.



Several defects of television program and merits of reading books also make the indispensability. The programs showed on TV cannot be controlled by ourselves, and the limitation of use, comparative higher cost, portable contribute make television less important, while books are cheaper, do less harm to eyes.

From what we have discussed above, we can finally draw a conclusion that television do plays an important role in our life nowadays, but reading books are still indispensable.
