I strongly disagree with the statement that artist provides something of lasting value while the critic, no matter what he has evaluated works of art, cannot influence the lasting value of art. My point includes the duty and the function of the artist and critics.

Firstly, the responsibility of artist is to present products contained novels, films, music, paintings, etc. to the society and public. As for this duty, it should firstly satisfy with humans who are interested with their arts or someone who is not familiar with. What the artist's aim is not simply to present their feelings or mind which are painted on their paints or composed in their music, they are inclined to impact human to abstract his/her ideas. In this case, people who have the same feelings with the arts would be likely to accept while others may exclude them. For example, the paint of Sunrise drawn by Monet, sunflowers by Vincent Van Gogh, they were not understood and accepted at first by lots of people for their confused connotation. Yet, after years people have gradually realized their value and accepted them. Why did these people change their opinions about their arts? The critic is one of the most important factors to this change.

The duty and function of the critics is not simply to evaluate whether the arts are contained lasting value, they also should help people to better understand and realize the real value of them. It is a common sense that not everyone can find the value of the arts because it is always that artists are someone who has stood on top of most people. Take Mozart's works as an example, when his Fate Symphony has first presented to audiences, he has achieved three acknowledgements and applauses. However, Mozart is only included in the minority, and there are plenty of artists who have made the same contributions to the art and cannot make people to receive their values. Picasso, his paints have not obtained their initial value and in that time his paint's impression school has not made people to understand. With the critic and blame about him, after several years people finally find the value contained in his arts.

Critic is not only the critic itself, but also provides question whether the art is bad or good and contained value or not. Lots of paints received their value, and some may be accepted forever, while others may be ignored by people. With the help of critic, people can truly understand the value of art. After listening one music product, they can feel the real value by the comment of critics. Appreciating a paint several times people can realize its value by critics. And also this function can make those artists who are freshmen evolved in the art field to be known to public, decrease artists' impact to a different level by critics. In short, critic owns the duty to make people truly examine the value of arts. As for lasting value of arts, critic has the right to influence people's view.

In conclusion, both of artists and critics have the same duties and functions to the society and public. The artists present their arts to public and then the value of them should be examined by population. In turn, the responsibility and function of critic can help public to understand or substantiate whether there contains the lasting value about arts.

主题上好像不是很清楚，楼主观点似乎是两者平衡的，三段的论证侧重于critic的作用，

The stream of history is lined with myriads of marvelous masterpieces which are esteemed as the accumulation of intelligence of the artists. They commit their life exploring in the realm of treasures of lasting value, which will hardly fade their color. At the same time, critics--who evaluate works of art--are highly deemed as guiders who lead our way into the treashold of art kingdom, thus having an upgrading effect on our pursuit of the value of art.

Thanks to the commitment of numerous artists, humans, with their innate curiosity, the desire to aproach appreciable beauty and the passion of knowing more about the world, are able to be accessible to brilliantly shining works that last abidingly. In fact, behind the profound works of art, there lies insight into what is eternal and universal. The Beethoven's symphony is a vivid representation of the hard muscle of human heart, with which one is capable of conquering the blunders in life and strive for one's value against the fate. It is the same with the painting of Madonna and Angels that is somehow, for lots of viewers, a revelation of transcendent spirituality. From this you can hardly fail to see that artists not only apply their original skills to displaying the high attainments in their specific field, but, what is more important, dispose what is worth our gorgerous respect and what otherwise deserves our scorn in humanity. Consequently, our way of looking into the world has changed, thus we perceive more, think deeper and further cherish a desirable soul which may lastingly benifit our civilization.

Yet, when the lasting value created by artists are in the limelight, we should not neglect the activating role of critics on our way moving up the artistic-perceiving ladder. Without critics, who have frequent access to various works of certain artist and possess a profound understanding of what is behind the exterior of the works, we are like kites that broke the tread blindly flying in the sky. For instance, surprisingly but definitely, a large amount of blue was used as the major color of for sunlight in Mnet's notable work"Impression: Sunrise", which was not ackownledged by the general until a mass of critics dug out the deep meaning behind it. As you can see, critics, like catalyst, help us see behind the veil of abstuse works; like filter, contribute to guiding us to what deserves our appreciation, thus helping to introduce us to the lasting value that artists create.

Admittedly, critics play, in some cases and to some extent, a vital part for us to assimilate the genuine connoted meaning, whereas, we cannot deny that sometimes critics have a degrading role for us to dig out the hiding value. To illustrate, Van Gogh expressed his very internal emotional response to the world. Unfortunately, lacking attention of critics, only one of his paintins sold out in his entire career. Due to the limited comprehension of critics towards the works of art, we might as well resort to critics' comment as a supplement of our perspective about the works, thus we are more likely to be exposed to the internal lasting value created by artists.

To sum up, artists, with their creative means of depicting the insightful perceptions about the world,  are the real creators of the lasting value behind the works, while critics guide us to better understand the hiden value via their evaluation.
