------题目------
Statistics collected from dentists indicate that three times more men than women faint while visiting the dentist. This evidence suggests that men are more likely to be distressed about having dental work done than women are. Thus, dentists who advertise to attract patients should target the male consumer and emphasize both the effectiveness of their anesthetic techniques and the sensitivity of their staff to nervous or suffering patients.
------正文------
The arguer recommends dentists to target the male consumer and emphasize both the effectiveness of their anesthetic techniques and the sensitivity of their staff. To support this conclusion, the arguer illustrates statistics and claim that men are more likely to be distressed about having dental work done than women are. However, the arguer's recommendation is not convincing enough to be accepted by dentists.(开头没有必要重复题目。可以参看imong的关于A开头的帖子。)
First of all, it is unverified to deduce from the collected statistics that men are more likely to faint and to be distressed than women. (首先应该说调查也许程序时不符合规范的。其次才是数据上问题)The arguer only shows the apparent result that three times more men than women faint while visiting the dentist, but fails to provide details, such as the entire number of men and women, and the basic information, such as the ages, careers, and health conditions about these groups of people. For example, if 300 men and 30 women participate in the study, while 90 men and 30 women faint, it is unjustifiable to conclude that men are more likely to faint, because only 30% of men faint in front of dentists whereas 100% of women do so. Moreover, if most of the men have younger ages or worse health conditions, or if most of the women have careers like sportswomen or policewomen, it can be expected that the men are more likely to faint than the women in the collected statistics, but unfortunately, they cannot represent the vast majority of dental patients. (写得太长了,很耗费时间。展开适当就可以了。)As a result, without carefully examining the details of the statistics, it is unsubstantiated to make any convincing conclusion. Whether men are more likely to be distressed than women, and whether it is necessary for dentists to target on male consumer all remain questions.(结论太长了)
Besides, even if men are more likely to be distressed than women, it is doubtful that emphasizing effectiveness of anesthetic techniques or the sensitivity of the staff can solve this problem. Anesthetic techniques can only relief(relieve) the pain in the dental processes, while the sensitivity of the staff to nervous or suffering patients cannot change the fact that the patients' teeth will be removed. If the patients' distressfulness mainly results from worrying about appearance or chewing ability in following days, such effectiveness or sensitivity cannot help these patients at all. Furthermore, advertisements emphasizing anesthetic effectiveness can induce negative effects, because patients will consider the possibility that too effective anesthetic treatment will harm their brain or nervous systems. Therefore, without carefully studying the desirability and effectiveness of such advertisements, it is unwise for dentists to follow the arguer's recommendation.
In conclusion, the arguer's recommendation about targeting on male consumers and advertisement principles cannot convince dentists, because neither the conclusion that more men are likely to be distressed than women nor the assertion that emphasizing anesthetic techniques and the sensitivity of the staff can be considered verified or reasonable.(结尾页不需要重复。简要结尾就可以)
缺少了一个批驳点:就是B2该写的。即使调查正确也不代表men更distressed。也许women是没有表现出来,或者以其他方式表现出来的。
基本没有什么问题。还是不错的习文。 |
