TOPIC: ISSUE26 - "Most people would agree that buildings represent a valuable record of any society's past, but controversy arises when old buildings stand on ground that modern planners feel could be better used for modern purposes. In such situations, modern development should be given precedence over the preservation of historic buildings so that contemporary needs can be served."

When come cross the problem whether we should preserve the historic building or we should give precedence to the modern development so that contemporary needs can be served. Many people will be drawn in the dilemma. Admittedly, the modern development has its significant value on our society whereas the history of the old building outweighs in the culture of the society.

The buildings not only purely represent a valuable record of any society's past but also reflect the culture of the society. It is a vivid text book of the country. The country yard--Siheyuan in Beijing is a case of point. The yard emerged in the Yuan dynasty with the development of the economic and culture in that time. It is amalgamations of aesthetic, architecture, culture and historic value. The designing of the yard involves the typical culture of Fengshui which determines the parameter of the yard's length and width and the orientation of the window and so the forth according to the characteristic of the owner and the geography. In addition, the picture craved on the pillar and the colors painted on the roof represent the custom and aesthetic culture of that time. Moreover the structure of the yard incarnates the characteristic of Chinese—Golden mean and humility.
And now, these yards such as the Forbidden City are preserved in the special district of Beijing with the Hu tong as famous sites. Which the foreigners are quite interested in and viewed as the best way to know the old city. The same case can be given out as the Ellis Island in the New York port. Which are restored as the national monument to commemorate the history of immigration to the U.S.

While on the other hand the opposite may assert the past is an impediment to the innovation, the old building may take up the place but do nothing. To object the assertions I want demonstrate the criteria to determine whether a building is too old to stand in the city. The old building is not refer to the building which is broken and dangerous, and will collapse in any minute, the old is illustrated as a kind of culture and a solid arts with history. People should not take a utilitarian attitude to value a building or architecture. We should emphasize the culture embodying behind the building and gain the enlightenment for the future. We can built a modern building no matter where only it is suitable, but if we bring a old building down, we no longer have it back again.

To balance the necessary of replace the old site with the new building we should pick up the tradeoff. Understandably, some change is needed to guarantee the safety and development of our society. And we can also preserve a district where the old building can be well cared as Beijing dose and exploit some district around the city for the development of the modern building.

When come cross the problem whether we should preserve the historic building or we should give precedence to the modern development so that contemporary needs can be served. Many people will be drawn in the dilemma. Admittedly, the modern development has its significant value on our society whereas the history of the old building outweighs in the culture of the society(society前面没有the的,另外outweight后面要加个宾语的,我觉得这句话写的不够明确,最后说是historical value outweights(...)).

The buildings not only purely represent a valuable record of any society's past but also reflect the culture of the society. It is a vivid text book(textbook) of the country(我觉得教科书似乎不够好,是否改用reference book). The country yard--Siheyuan in Beijing is a case of point. The yard emerged in the Yuan dynasty with the development of the economic and culture in(at) that time. It is amalgamations of aesthetic, architecture(architectural), culture(cultural) and historic value. The designing of the yard involves the typical culture of Fengshui which determines the parameter of the yard's length and width and the orientation of the window and so the forth according to the characteristic of the owner and the geography. In addition, the picture craved on the pillar and the colors painted on the roof represent the custom and aesthetic culture(审美没有culture的吧,换taste) of that time. Moreover the structure of the yard incarnates the characteristic of Chinese—Golden mean and humility.

And now, these yards such as the Forbidden City are preserved in the special district of Beijing with the Hu tong as famous sites. Which the foreigners are quite interested in and viewed as the best way to know the old city(the old days of the city). The same case can be given out as the Ellis Island in the New York port. Which are restored as the national monument to commemorate the history of immigration to the U.S.

While on the other hand the opposite may assert(asserts that) the past is an impediment to the innovation, the old building may take up the place(space) but do nothing (+helpful). To object the assertions I want (+to) demonstrate the criteria to determine whether a building is too old to stand in the city(这句话不通,最好改成whether an architect should be protect or not ) . The old building is not refe(referring) r to the building which is broken and dangerous, and will collapse in any minute, the old("old"加个引号吧) is illustrated as(indicates) a (+certain) kind of culture and a solid arts with history(a certain type of achitects of cultural and artistic value) . People should not take a utilitarian attitude to value(用value 有些褒了,用assess什么的吧) a building or architecture. We should emphasize the culture embodying behind the building and gain the enlightenment for the future. We can built a modern building no matter where only it is suitable(这句话有些武断,建议改得婉转一点,这样才比较客观啊 :) ) , but if we bring a old building down, we no longer have it back again.

To balance the necessary of replace(replacing) the old site with the new building we should pick up the tradeoff. Understandably, some change is needed to guarantee the safety and development of our society. And we can also preserve a district where the old building can be well cared as Beijing dose and exploit some district around the city for the development of the modern building.
