issue41 Such nonmainstream areas of inquiry as astrology, fortune telling, and psychic and paranormal pursuit play a vital role in society by satisfying human needs that are not addressed by mainstream science.

   
Since the beginning of human civilization, the previous people never expose themselves to the science technology, not even the present mainstream science. Then the majority of things around the world was unknown to them. Sometimes they worshiped in some special way, and maybe the astrology, fortune telling and psychic and paranormal pursuit played the vital role in society. As the statement claiming, I partly agree with the announcer. the following is my opinion.



    Firstly, people existing in the world have two kinds of needs including both the material needs and the spiritual requiring. As the development of the science, the material needs is to satisfy in some extent. At the same time, the needs of materials is increasing sharply as well as the spiritual enjoying. Obviously, the present science is the mainstream compared to the astrology, fortune telling, and psychic and paranormal pursuit. The present science can mainly improve material production to meet the material command and to meet the spiritual needs partly. However, the science technology cannot solve all the problem. The human being do not resemble other animals, and eating, sleeping, playing is not all part of our activities. We have sentiment which thoroughly distinguish between the animal and the human being. What's the sentiment? We can take love as the example for sentiment: a woman loves a man, and the love is not only having sex but the feeling exchange. If one of them passes away, the left one would cry for the dead person even would not remarry for the rest of life. On the contrary, you seldom see the tear welling from other animal such as tiger, wolf and so forth. The psychic and paranormal pursuit can satisfying the human needs: the alive person will go to church for worship for the dead one, who hopes the dead one can go to heaven some day.



    Secondly, the mainstream science can affect or influence the nonmainstream field. In other words, the mainstream science can be addressed to satisfy the spiritual needs of human beings. All the churches in the world represent the figure of mysterious stuff which is built from the carpenter and brickie. So the mainstream science indirectly meet the needs of spiritual of human beings. We can not say mainstream science can not satisfy the psychological needs. The mainstream science is trying to change and meet the human needs in society. Without technology, we can not achieve our dreams to travel around the whole world with some traffic tools. The traffic tools is from mainstream science can satisfy the human needs in society. Sometimes the science can finish the same thing as the astrology etc. For example, the previous people worship trying to get the rain to relieve the drought. Today the science can precisely do weather prediction and the artificial raining. Admittedly, the science can not do all. However, the science play a fatal role in society by satisfying human needs compared to the astrology, fortune telling which are not addressed by nonmainstream fields or areas. Furthermore, we can not ignore the astrology affection which science can not possess. Obviously, the astrology is part of psychology in the view of science.



    Summarizing, as time goes by, both the nonmainstream area and mainstream science play the crucial role in society by satisfying human needs. And the percent of affection will be variable for nonmainstream area and mainstream science. We can not emphasize one of them and ignore the other one. All the things around the world is a whole combining part which can not be isolated to talk about.
