I agree partially with the speaker that the reputation of anyone who is subject to media scrutiny will eventually be diminished in the age of media intensive coverage.  However, it not means that our society will lose all heroes.  The true hero or heroine in our society is similar to the true gold, it still shines although it is burned in the fire.
   Nowadays, we have stepped into the age of explosion of information, the media, as the most useful tool of transportation of information; intensively cover every corner of the world.  In order to reach the audience’s eyes and eras, the commentators and other staff of media organizations have to present the most attractive information.  Reputation of someone, especially great one, is one of the most things that people like to know, the psychologist also pointed out that prying is a kind of instinct of human beings.  While this kind of instinct of human beings can’t be satisfied aboveboard for the restriction of moral, the media really do a favor. Therefore, once there is great person who turns out, he or her must be a focus of media at the time.  Though at first, the media would just present the public aspects of this great person, this phenomenon is transient.  Moreover, After the passion of audience that they concentrate on this person, media usually change the focus from the public aspects to private aspects, and everyone know what a great person looks like in his or her private life.   According to the media which is ubiquitous, the boundaries between public and private of the great person who is subjected to the media scrutiny will be blurred in the end.  Thus , the great person lose the mysterious aura which belonged to a hero or heroine, he or her will be a trite idol, or the situation will be even worse that he or her will be a disgustful person for his little mistake that is not big deal for a normal person.  Therefore, the reputation of this great person diminished from now on.

However, admittedly, the reputation will diminish as the presentation of above paragraph, we should ask that whether there is really no possibility that our society regard anyone as a hero? And we also should ask whether our society regard a man or a woman as a hero merely according his or her reputation?  The answer is obvious no.

Firstly, the reputation actually is the production of public opinion, and the public opinion is guide by the media, it is unreliable because the media not only have the ability to destroy a person’s reputation, but also the ability of establishment . Cause most of the people couldn’t see what a great person really do, they only can understand the great person according to various media, the newspaper, the TV, the books, the magazine, the radio, the internet wet.  As all of us know that we can’t live without heroes , we need them to signal some kinds of spirit we need in our society so that we can hold our spiritual while we developing our material world. Therefore, the media sometimes also need to establish some great ones’ reputation according to the need of society.

Secondly, though the reputation of a great person have a important impact on how people think of he or her, the most essential is his or her performance that is extraordinary and praiseworthy.  That is the most necessary factor for identifying whether a person should regard as a hero or heroine. No matter what any other factors belong to a person, if only this person embodies key traits that be accepted and appreciated by its originating culture quintessentially, this person will be a hero with no doubt. Marvin John Heemeyer, though has such a bad temper, still viewed as a hero in his owe town. People just value his heroical performance.

In sum, in my opinion, though sometimes the reputation of anyone who is subjected to media scrutiny will eventually be diminished, it also have the time that ,media help out society regard some great ones as hero and heroine. the hero will never diminished from our society.
