185. "Scandals—whether in politics, academia, or other areas—can be useful. They focus our attention on problems in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could."
1.丑闻可以帮助人们关注社会症结所在
2.过度关注不必要的丑闻会错误引导人们的注意力

10:00-11:00
Are scandals useful in our society today as the statement contends? Although I agree that they focus our attention on problems which we may overlook, the statement fails to account for the negative impact that they may wrongly lead our attention to the unimportant aspect of certain issues.

I agree with the statement insofar as some certain social scandals do call public attention on to the serious problems that no speaker and reformer ever could as the speaker contend. Social with scandals is just as a person who is sick in bed. If we don't care about the sickness, we are not able to find out where the disease is and the illness will getting worse and worse, finally maybe the person will die. Otherwise, if the person pay enough attention to the disease, and heal it betimes, he/she would be as well as a healthy man again. Same thing happens to the society with scandals. Scandals just let the public focuses on the disease of the society, and give it a treatment in time. Examples can be found in many fields. Not long ago, a Korean famous biology scientist was found cheating in experiment data to obtain honor and money, which made the pubic angry and paid more attention to all the scientists' research results. If they did not turn the scandal up, there may be more cheating behavior in the scientific research. Thus, scandals just show the diseases of the society up to the public attention, which calls people to solve the problems as quickly as they can.

However, we should not pay much attention on scandals that followed with meaningless results. Some of the diseases are crucial while others are not. When we unlimitedly expand a slightly disease and spend much money and time on it, our society will also gain a tremendous lose, even more, our attention may be wrongly leaded, and the main problem may escape from out scope of sight. Take Clinton the former American president for example. At the end of his president time in the US, it is almost everybody that paid much attention on his scandal with Lewinsky, which is the main cause of his stepping out. But review his management of the ten years, economic of the US is more flourish than the years before. Clinton brought more to the society than what he caused to lose. It was unfair to him that people just focus their attention to his scandals. When people always do such things, our society would not develop healthily, because we are all human and are not able to prevent every mistake from happening. Thus, we should not expand the famous people's mistakes, as well as focus our attention to such scandals.

In sum, scandals are not always useful as the speaker said, because there are many scandals that just are slight diseases of the society. However, if we define "scandal" more narrowly -- in terms of just crucial diseases of the society -- I strongly agree with the statement that they are useful and would help solve many problems that may be overlooked by the public attention.

(这段的Ts可以再简单一点,可以省去该段中并未提到的“speaker”和“reformer”,显得中心更突出)

When we unlimitedly expand a slightly disease and spend much money and time on it, our society will also gain a tremendous lose, even more (What’s more), our attention may be wrongly leaded, and the main problem may escape from out scope of sight.  (这一句话好像有点问题,或者分成两句,或者加个分号)Take Clinton the former American president for example. (论述清晰,整体感也很强)
