The artist is often coupled with the critic, who serves to evaluate and give remarks to the works of the artist. Some people argue that the critic’s status is so high that they will retain in the course of history for a long time. Admittedly, the critic plays an crucial role in propagandizing the artist’s works. However, in my opinion, it is the artist instead of the critic that can provide society with something of great significance thus enabling it to last long.

To begin with, art can teach us critical lessons of life as well as highten our spiritual mind, which has a long-lasting significance in society.By reading  novels or going to the cinema, we can learn the toughness and sweetness of life. A good novel serves as the reflection of every aspect of life, including the overall background period, the characteristics of the heros and herines, and what’s more crucial is the deep inner world of their mind. One can obtain great courage, inspiration, motivation and sometimes belief which can guide the blind-in-the-mind adolescence to a brighter future in an well-organized novel. The critic’s remarks cannot influence people for a long time on psychological or social level like the novel does, regardless of the fact that the critic is often in company with the artist’s works or even before them. Even if in certain circumstances the critic gives some influences on people, the effect they bring about is sometimes a negative one.

One best illustration of this is the  infamous identification received by Allen Poe, a renowned poet and novelist in American literature. As we all know, Allen Poe was born in the 19th century, however, he got little fame or identification until he died in the 20th century. Due to the novel style and mysterious contents he put forward in his works, the domestic critics declaimed aganist his works, regarding them as “total absurdity”,which posed an undesirable and unpopular image on the contemporary readers’ mind.The contemporaries were misled by the  biased critics on Allen Poe’ works and repelled him and his works until his death. In spite of this, a real renowned artist with great artistic value won’t be blot out, and thereby Allen Poe eventually gained a worldwide recognization after a century.While the critics’s remarks fade away as time goes, artists and their masterpieces of great value will forever deposit in the pool of human mind.

Admittedly, the critic may act as a catalyst for artist’s works in some cases. Without the critic’s “introduction ”, the speculiar painting of an unknown painter, the music record of a new-born rock band, might lack popularity in the beginning. Under this circumstance, a proper review in terms of the arts to the mass will contribute to the spread of the artists’ core value. At the same time, the critics will provide the mass with a brand new idea about the artists’ works in which means might draw the mass’s curiosity and thus inculcate in the mass the concept of originality. To this extent, the critic plays an important role in assuring the artist’s value last long.

In conclusion, it is the artist and their works rather than the critic that equip us with numerous masterpieces and then they exist in the soiciety for an enduring period. The artist’s works, no matter it is novel, film, music or painting, unroll a colorfull picture for us. On this picture, there are brightness and darkness, enbodied with profound meaning of life, guiding everyone stride forward with great courage.
