TOPIC: ISSUE38 - "In the age of television, reading books is not as important as it once was. People can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books."

In modern era, people tend to read less and watch more television than before. Although television has become seemly imperative medium for getting information and we can learn a lot by viewing TV, reading books can never be replaced and still be as important as it has always been.

Admittedly, television holds certain merits which books can not cherish. As a new comer of the late 20th century, television brings more vision enjoyment with its vivid picture, beautiful color, and melody music. Children prefer watching animation of Disney to story books such as myths story of Gelling. Meanwhile, adults are more willing to sit in front of television for watching pretty president saying something than reading by themselves in their spare time. It is more attracting for watching TV than reading books. Besides, television has more advantageous in providing current and spatial information without time and space limitation. what happened in this side of earth will be disseminated to the other side an hour later through satellite transmute system, especially the outstanding events such as the winners of the World Cup or the outrageous earthquake. Still more, with the development of telivison technology, the advent of data television, people have more choices to watch what they want. There are more than 200 channels to choose in some places. Therefore, it seems that television is a better choice to learn for vivid pictures, current information, and more channel selects.

However, all above merits of television does not follow that it is a better way to learn than books. Firstly, the vivid pictures television presents will distract the learners' attention. For children, learning from television may be more effective for their absence of adjustment of attention; while it will do harm to their eyesight and thinking for long-time watching television. For adult, it is not necessary to provide such colorful pictures for they have enough capacity to pay attention and need more space and time to contemplate.  Secondly, the information of television is just news and facts for knowing, not the real knowledge for learning. To learn is different from to know because the former needs more thinking , reasoning, and memory activity; while the later is just a course of conscious or unconscious, it is natural that to know this time, and to forget that time.  Thirdly, more channel choices are meaningless because people only can watch one channel at one specific time; more choices may means more time to be wasted during changing channels. In all, the merits of television are to amuse the public in their free time not to learn knowledge.

To those who really want to learn knowledge, it is still an effective way through reading books. The book provides more profound, variegated, and systematic knowledge. Moreover, one could read books in the riverside, under a tree, or just on the bed; while the television has not such convenient for the limitation of signals and electricity. what is more important is that reading book could make think more , get more and learn more subjectively; while watching television is always just an accept courses passively.

In conclusion, the speaker overstates the comparative significance of television. What we view through television provides only one dimension of life, that is,  firstly television is a media for enjoyment or amusement, then maybe we know some from watching television; while the books is firstly to learn, then we may get some amusement as the counter product if someone enjoying reading books.

我是想讲学习的写着就忘了提出来了，这几个方面应该都可以和学习挂钩的！

嗯，真是知我心，就是担心写得不够深入，所以一直没有写，研究了好多文章，对这种比较类的，我一直不知道怎么写，北美范文基本都是平衡观点，可是对我来说，平衡观点很难写。
