130. "How children are socialized today determines the destiny of society. Unfortunately, we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society."
现在孩子的社会化程度决定了社会的命运。可惜的是,我们还没有学会教孩子怎么样去建设一个更好的社会。
提纲:
1、孩子社会化决定了社会未来;
2、学校决定了孩子的社会化;
3、但现今教育有弊端需要改进。
This statement actually consists of two claims: (1) that the way in which children are socialized largely determine the destiny of society, and (2) that our education system should be improved in order to make children better prepared before they enter the society. I totally agree what the statement claims.
Firstly, what the children will bring to the world when they grow up, leave school, and finally enter the society largely determine the future of society. Scientific technology always impulses the advancement of society. Will children bring to the world a lot of new technology in the future just as some palmary scientists, for example, Newton, Edison, Einstein, did in the past? If it comes true, human society will keep developing quickly. Or will children be lack of knowledge or enterprise so they make little or even no contribution to development of scientific technology. If so, it is bad news for our society. Art is one of the most important parts of the culture of society, and it is art that makes the life colorful. Can the children who are interested in art make full use of their imagination and create wonderful works of art such as great artists did in the past? If they make it, they make contribution to the society by making people feel comfortable. Their outstanding works of art will help people forget kinds of annoyance coming from life, escape from the great pressure under the work, and get a good rest. After that, when people restart their work in a good mood, they will surely be more effective.
Secondly, stick out a mile, there is a cause-and-effect relationship between how the children will perform after leaving school and what they have been taught under our education system. How much knowledge they learn before they enter society is important. It is hard to imagine that creative idea can be given and significant contribution can be made by people without studying the past achievement and gaining enough knowledge. Beside knowledge, EQ is also very important. As an illustration: (1) to sustain in the more and more drastic compete, children should know how to come over the depression coming from the frustrate. (2)The ability about constructing good relationships to other people is very important, for it is hard to succeed without others' help today. Above all, the better our education system is, the better children will be.
Thirdly, education is important, but unfortunately our education system is far away from perfect. To reach the aim that make children strong enough before entering society, our education system today needs improving. In my opinion, there are two major problems we should try our best to solve as soon as possible. First, today's education ,competing for high grades seriously limits the quality of learning at all levels of education, teachers just teach what will be tested in the exams, students just learn knowledge for working out problems appearing in the exams. It is very harmful, for many cases, students don't make full understanding of what they have been taught, but just remember the conclusion in order to pass the exams. Another problem is that most educators look down upon EQ. Concerning with the development of students' capacity for reasoning and logic thinking, parents and teachers always overlook the development of abilities such as overcoming depression, getting along well with others. In fact, EQ is very important; students will benefit more from an education that also teach them to explore their own emotions.
In sum, it is sure that how children are socialized today determines the destiny of society, but our education system still has some limitations which need eliminating. It is high time that we begin to improve our education system, for our children, for our society in the future. |
