167"It is impossible for an effective political leader to tell the truth all the time. Complete honesty is not a useful virtue for a politician."
突然发现自己不知道怎么去结尾了,郁闷一下下
Whether requiring all politicians are of honesty and tell truth at all time or not, which is a much debated one in that it affected everybody in their daily lives. People may prefer one side to another, although some have no effective opinion about it. In my point of view, I admit honesty is an excellent personality, however, it is not imperative to require all of them telling truth all along.
Firstly, I firmly admit that being of honesty is an effective way for politicians to achieving success of vote or appealing more support from people. Politician, as a public figure, must to be paid more attention on them even possibly is considered a good example for common people. For this point, politician being of fine virtue such as honesty would win more support and polls from voters and in all likelihood the respect from opponent and people. Lincoln’s case can give some light to this point. When he, who borned in a quite poor family, contended the vote for president of America, he did not feel any inferiority due to his birth and told all voter true fact. At last more people voted him for his honesty which led to the success.
However, there are a host of cases which require politician indeed not telling a word, otherwise danger or serious damage would happen to society and nation safety. For one thing, governors need to make out lots of plans or policy which is about national safety such as how to arrange army, how to improve the capability of army when facing wars. All of these need to keep in secret position. For other things, it is necessary that politician keep silent in follow cases: several politicians make out measures to address the damage from international terrorists and drug traffickers and want to arrest them; programs of high-tech research are considered by politicians, which are about modern arm or national secret. If the politicians tell truth this time, the result would be very awful or catastrophic.
Finally, when it comes to personal lives, it is unfair to call for such honest action from politician. Politician, no matter which position he was on or what achievement he achieved, is no more than a common person who has various sensation and his private lives. He has right to say no word about his personal life as long as he has brought about a multitude of attribution to society and has not violated any laws. And we can not negate his success because of some flaws in his personal lives.
From what has been discussed above, although honesty is an excellent merit for a politician, we can get the conclusion that it is not necessary that requiring all politician tell truth at all time. |
