As a guideline of behavior, the way people select to strive toward their goals, may it be pragmatic or idealistic, has recently arouse wide concern among artists, politician, sociologist, etc. While it is a shrewd selection to be practical in current society where money has been put upon people as the prime standard to value their behavior, it is also, in my observation, unwise for people to discard idealistic view.

Admittedly, what pragmatic can bring to people is sometimes more immediate and more significant benefit. It is reasonable to conceive that what come first to people is to make a better life with their own effort and even that put immediate benefit before any other potential benefit such as brought by idealistic view is more acceptable to them. After all, not only does pragmatic behavior warrant the basic need of people to survive in a society both in current time and in the past, but it also can eventually bless such honor as eulogy, prize, medal and fame to those people who succeed in the realm of their work. Also at the meantime, these things are what most people in current society are longing for. It is, of course, too rigid and disgusting a requirement to demand common people to sacrifice their own value to endeavor for a vague future. In short, people nowadays in most situation has no choice but to select pragmatic way to earn a living, conducting a research, doing business, and what's more, setting certain regulation and rules.

However, the power of idealistic views should never be neglected, since it is this kind of selection that to some extent enhances the quality of our lives, drives the development of science and technology and still advance the society of us human beings. It is, in fact, not the type of behavior or view that matters much in related to benefit taken to us, but rather the effect that these two selections that bring to us that matters most. In other words, idealistic view is not without its value, but even in certain cases bless us a lot. Indeed, consider Martin Luther King as an example, a venerable statesman who had play an key role in enhancing the status of negro in American, he could have chosen to work in an office receiving the salary distributed by the government as most then common Americans, but what bolster his enterprise that endeavor for the well-being of negro is, in my view, absolutely the idealistic goal to reverse the trend in then American society that negro was disparaged by the white. Therefore, to drive forward the society we are living, the idealistic view should never be omitted.

In summary, the pragmatic way of behavior can satisfy more conveniently people's daily life. Also, the idealistic view can play a key role in certain cases. With both ways listed in the choices and consideration of people's behavior and view, a better society and a easier method of success are warranted.
