in this argument, the author asserts compared with the large, for-profit hospitals, the small, nonprofit ones provide treatment  both of more economic and of better quality .to support his assumption, the author cites data of the average length of a patient's stay, and cure rate among patients of two hospitals as sample for small and big hospitals. to further support, he also indicates the Saluda hospital(sample of small, nonprofit hospitals) has more employees per patient and
receives few complaint .however, after serious analysis, we find this argument unfounded

to begin with, the author cannot convince us that the shorter a patient stay for in a hospital, the better treatment is gives. because no evidence is given to prove that patients do not leave the
hospital until they get fully recovered. perhaps the Saluda hospital is short of beds or other facilities, the patients cannot stay at hospital any longer when they feel little better for leaving space for the newly arrived patients or perhaps the patients coming to nonprofit hospital just like the saluda are some sort of poverty thus they cannot afford to stay for longer even their sick are still serious. all these possibilities lead a poor condition of treatment in saluda hospital just go against to the author's final conclusion.

as the line of reasoning goes down, the author implies a misleading guidance that more employees per patience and, few complaints directly mean better treatment in saluda hospitals. firstly, employees in hospital and doctors are different concepts. perhaps the saluda hospital actually has more employees , concluding cleaners, cooks, even some servants in community for it is a non-profit hospital. but the doctors there are less than of megaville hospital.

secondly, even assuming that there are more doctors per patients, it might be a results of less patients, not more doctors, which even might be a evidence of mistrust towards small hospital in view of  the people living there.

furthermore, even if the number of  doctors there is more than of megative, it is insufficient to prove a better service and treatment for the experience and skill of these doctors are not mentioned, and to reach a conclusion of better treatment, we need more information about the facilities and environment for treatment there. finally, when it comes to the issue of complaints, since fewer complaints can be due to fewer patients, indifferent attitudes of people  and even sense of complaints among people there besides better service, the author fails to draw a sound conclusion based on it.

finally, even it is assumed that the saluda hospital actually provide a better treatment than the megaville does. It cannot be applied to all issues on comparison of small and big hospitals. although they are nearby, perhaps saluda is in a large city or rich area while megaville in small and poor one where the average level of life and medicine is lower than saluda. thus we can not convince the author of better treatment in small and nonprofit even we admit that go to these hospital is really a economical way

to sum up. without particular information and direct evidence about the treatment given by suluda and megaville hospital, the author cannot persuade us the former really provide better
service. let alone the  comparison of overall hospital all around.
