212. "If a goal is worthy, then any means taken to attain it is justifiable."

The speaker asserts that any means can be taken to attain a worthy goal. As far as I am concerned, though the assertion has merits to some extent, I do not agree with the speaker generally. Admittedly, we should try our best to achieve goals if they are worthy, nevertheless, we must with an eye to others and society, whose interests not being weakened is the precondition of our goals.   

On the one hand, sometimes we have to adopt “unwarrantable” ways to address some matters which relate to most people’s benefits. For example, when a country's benefits being threatened, the leader may have to start a war, or else the people would suffer from a lot of losses. History is replete with these examples. When Japanese planes attacked the Pearl Harbor without warning, which meant that America was imperiled; then-current president of America decided to take war with Japan, which was brutal for the common Japanese but was advocated by all Americans because it was for their well-being. So, in a word, I think that in some situations we could change some unjustifiable means to arrive at the goal.

On the other hand, however, it does not mean that any goal is worthy to do so. In most situations, we must take into account the influence of the means we take to others and also to society. If the means are harmful to others and society though they conduce to our goals, we could not consider them any more. For instance, when a factory faces the dilemma of profits and environment protection, the executor should be aware that if the factory only runs for its profits regardless of the environment, it is a large hurt to the public and to the offspring. In short, when we are on the way to a goal, we must rule out those means which may do damage to others or society.

Nevertheless, in the reality, many people and organizations take any means to attain their goals with no consideration of others and society. For supporting examples we have to see no further than products providers and media corporations. For less cost and more profits, the products providers supply bottom-quality（质量差可以这样讲吧？） commodities to the consumers, while claim that their products are the best ones. And to attain this goal, they must turn to the media firms, who advertise for their products after charging a large number of fees no matter whether their products are actually consistent with the advertises that will be broadcast. As a result, people feel deceived by both the products providers and the media companies because the products are not so well as they proclaim. Worse more, many cases have happened that people's health is threatened because of using the cheesy products. Many other examples could also explain my viewpoints. All in all, people's irresponsibility for others and society would do damage to them.

Though there are some other aspects related to the issue, nonetheless, I think that these factors mentioned above could adequately demonstrate my view. From what has been discussed above, we may come to the conclusion that while a goal may be worthy for yourself, you could not take any means to attain it because others and society's behalf may be diminished. Anyway, we must be responsible for others and society.
