TOPIC: ISSUE121 - "At various times in the geological past, many species have become extinct as a result of natural, rather than human, processes. Thus, there is no justification for society to make extraordinary efforts, especially at a great cost in money and jobs, to save endangered species."

The extinction of many species exists in anytime of the geological past. The phenomenon is caused by natural processes, so human do not need to spend a great deal of money and jobs to save endangered species. The speaker asserted so, however, when considering this issue carefully, hardly could I agree on this view. Although natural process is an aspect of species extinction, human behavior is another important factor of causing this problem, and human have the obligation of saving the endangered animals and plants.

The decreasing speed of species amount is accelerating exponentially year by year. The number of extinct species everyday now is 1000 times larger than that of nineteenth century. The abnormal phenomenon mostly attribute to the pollution of the human's industrial revolution. To disforest recklessly, contaminate water resources, destroy ozonosphere, those behaviors make the environment which wild animals and plants should live in more and more terrible. Besides these indirect reasons, excessively killing wild lives is another essential reason of making many species to become extinct. For instance, nowadays Japanese activity of hunting whales is speeding up the extinction of whales. Moreover, the increasing of human population is also decreasing the living space of other species on the earth. People occupied wildlife’s' land and burnt wild plants to build houses and grow crops. Human need space to survive, however, other species also need it, so it is improper to rob others' resources for human. Lives on the earth have the same survival right.

Although extinction of species is a normal process, human accelerate its speed, so human have the obligation to prevent animals and plants from extinction. First, saving endangered species can maintain the ecological balance. Keeping the variety of species on the earth is benefit to every life. The more species are, the more stable our biosphere is. Second, some species which have a long history can be researched by scientists. Through them, such as panda, biologists can understand the relationship between different species. Many endangered species have special functions. Some rare plants can be studied to made medicine for curing serious patients. Though the extinction of some species is unchangeable, but people should still try their best to protect more endangered species.

Fortunately, people have realized the importance of protecting species. Many government constitute laws to prohibit hunting, and a lot of national parks and nature reserves have been established. Indeed, these behaviors are effective. On the contrary, if people do not saving endangered animals, the result is unimaginable. The biosphere is so frangible that it could be destroyed by people easily. For example, if the birds are extinct, the insects would over flourish. Then they would eat our crops out. When there is no food to eat, they would be extinct too. After most species are extinct, people have nothing to eat. And the last extinct one is human itself. Therefore, saving endangered species is essential to the existence of human.

In conclusion, the amount of species on the earth is becoming less and less. To protect the environment people live in, and to keep the variety of species, people have to save endangered species. Or human would be extinct in the future.
