According to the title of the statement, nonmainstream areas play a vital role in society by solution the problems which might not be explained clearly by mainstream science. In my personal viewpoint, I agree with the author in general based upon that nonmainstream science play a role in society instead playing a vital role. I have several reasons to support my point.

A threshold point is that nonmainstream areas can satisfy people curiosity in what mainstream science does not address completely. Human always pursuit the results or the solutions of the problems by ways in various areas including both mainstream and nonmainstream. However, the world is too big that human can not understand all things in the world and even in the universe merely by mainstream technology and theories. To achieve the entertainment, many people star to extrapolate the weird things or supernatural events by their own ideas which might not be justified by science but might fully amuse the public. For example, many famous directors in Hollywood produce a serious of scientific fiction movies, such as E.T. <The Extra Terrestrial>, <King Kong>, <Star Wars>, and so forth. And the movies is popular in public and express how colorful the world is and how miraculous the world is. To extent in which people might dream the appearance of the E.T. and experience of companying with a orangutan. People would find fun in by way of nonmainstream inquiries.

Moreover, nonmainstream areas can comfort the spirit of people who are illiterate and know nothing about science. These groups of people always worry about their life for they have no confidence in well-being. These groups of people always worry about circumstance around them for some change might destroy the original appearance. These groups of people always worry about the world for they cannot understand or explain many things.  Nonmainstream science, especially astrology, fortune-telling, and psychic and paranormal inquiries, is useful to such group of people. It gives people believes and convinces them that something might protect them. For example, a famous movies named <Superman Return> told us that a man with paranormal energy would rescue people in big trouble. For that matter, many people believe wizards for they think these wizards can tell them the before, right now, the future and direct them what they would do next to avoid the dangerous.

Admittedly, sometimes over believing nonstream science might undermine the stability of the whole society. As we all know that mainstream science in the world has a series of criteria to evaluate all things in the world, and has a system theories to explain the most things happened in the word, and has its own lines of reasons to predict the future. However nonmainstream inquiries always explain or predict without sufficient evidence. The author unjustifiably asserts that nonmianstream areas of inquiry play a vital role in society. Common sense, mainstream areas of inquiry is overweight the nonmainstream. If we reverse the order of the former and the latter, the whole world would be disorder and not stable any more. For instance, some evil organizations attract ignorance people to take part in and deceive their money or even lure them crime. All these endanger the stability of our society and the public reliability to the government.

To sum up, due to aforemetional reasons, which sometimes intertwine to form an organic whole and thus become more persuasive than any single of them, we may safely arrive at the conclusion that sometimes we might address the problem by nonmainstream science for only entertainment or spiritual adjustment, the most time we address the problem by mainstream science even through some problems might not be addressed very well, thus nonmainstream science play a role in society but not an important role.
