Let's examine several programs called Genetics or Genomics, Bioinformatics Program or combined
Genetics, Genomics, and Bioinformatics Program.

1. NC State Genomics Program
http://genomics.ncsu.edu/

It compasses two stand-alone Ph.D. Program. One is called Functional Genomics Program http://genomics.ncsu.edu/function.html while the other one Bioinformatics Program http://genomics.ncsu.edu/bioinfo.html. Bioinformatics Program is mainly housed in Dept of Statistics (statistics-oriented) and focuses on handling and analyzing large amounts of data. Functional Genomics Program encompasses gene discovery, gene expression, protein and nucleic acid structure and function, gene and gene product interactions, and genomic approaches to breeding and comparative studies relevant to ecology and evolutionary biology. In other words, it is more experimental.

2. Functional Genomics Program at UMaine http://www.umaine.edu/genomics/
I strongly recommend this one because students can have the opportunity of working in the Jackson Lab well-known for mice http://www.jax.org/. But it turns out that there is no position for international students (Dingding confirmed that).

3. Genetics, Genomics and Development Program in U of Rochester Medical Center

4. Genetics, Genomics and Bioinformatics (GGB) Graduate Program, UC Riverside

5. The Interdisciplinary Program in Genetics, U of Iowa
Subtrack: Computational Genetics
http://genetics.grad.uiowa.edu/About/ComputationalGenetics.html

Purpose of Subtrack
The recent explosion of data generated by the fields of genetics and molecular biology has created a demand for sophisticated computational methods to extract meaningful information. Bioinformatics has emerged as an important new discipline in the biosciences promoting a close working relationship between genetics and the computational sciences. To meet the needs of students interested in this area of research, we propose to develop a formal subtrack within the Genetics Ph.D. program that would lead to a Ph.D. in Genetics with a specialization in Computational Genetics.

A professor in Departments of Internal Medicine and Biomedical Engineering at U of Iowa

Dr. Xing's research interests include the bioinformatics of RNA splicing and alternative splicing, comparative genomics, and microarray data analysis.

6. Graduate Program in Genetics and Genomics, Boston University

7. The Genetics, Genomics, and Bioinformatics Program at the University of Connecticut

http://genetics.uconn.edu/

Areas of research focus include: bioinformatics, chromosome structure and function, comparative genomics and genome evolution, developmental genetics, forensic genetics, genetics of pathogenesis and symbosis, molecular evolution, and the regulation of genome expression.

8. Genetics, Genomics Program, Mount Sinai School of Medicine
