TOPIC: ISSUE88 - "Technologies not only influence but actually determine social customs and ethics."

  The developting of technology at amazing speed make everyone in this world admits that technology influence our social customs and even ethics. However, I hardly can share the notion that it determines social customs and ethics.
  Since the industrilization, the speed of technology development has accerlarted and both the negtive and positive effects on our daily life make no one could the infulence of technologies and its power to change our ieads, concepts and even ethics. With the appearance of telephone and internet, the ways of communication between people, especially in different areas, were dramartically changed. We can easily get in touch with anyone, whether he is in Paris or Shanghai, just by a phone call or even a click of the mouse. Because of these technologies, people in different countries are collaborating and communicating more. Thus the different customs are gradually interwined and some new customs are born. One of the best examples to inllustrate this point is that the influnce of Hollywood movies on people outside of the America. For instance, now in China fewer and fewer people wathch Peking operor but would not miss any one big movie of Hollywood. Ostenbtely, technologies impact our social customs of sorts.
  On the other hand, after careful and deeply study of society customs and ethics, we certainly would find that the basic ethics and some custom tradition are not chaged with the fast technological develpments. The Bibel,  read by millions and millions of people a thousand years ago, is still one of the most influntial books in western secioty. What we believe in the former times, when there was no computers, automobiles and satelites, mostly remain the same as before. It is actually too superficial to conclude that technologies determine social customs and ethics.
Furthermore, someimes technology are determined by our basic ethics. Some invention that disobey the human ethics would be vanished and dismissed by the goverment. For instance, though the colone technology was succeessfully realizad on the cow and other species, large amount of people still cannot accepete to apply this technology on mankind because of the consideration of ethical and moral problems. To intensfy my point of view, let us go back to the 1948, the first explosion of nuclear bomb. It isbecause of  the sever destruction to human being and our envirment that so many country would take great effort to inhibit the research of nuclear weapons. Technology, without the boundence of ethics, would be dangerous and may be diastrous.
