Issue51:
"Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student."

Syllabus:
1.It is true that education considering the individual needs and interests of each student can give a great impetus to study.
2.However, general education is still crucial since it provides the basic knowledge and skills for students.
3.Besides, it is unwise to utterly meet whatever students require, especially the unreasonable ones, which may lead to a chaos in education.

Is education truly effective only insofar as it is specifically designed/ devised to satisfy the individual needs and interests of each student, as the speaker says? I agree with the speaker for student-centered education dramatically invokes students' potential talents and interests to study. Nevertheless, we should not underestimate the great importance of general education and excessively emphasize the significance of students and completely accept their requirement, especially the immature or even unreasonable ones; otherwise we will risk impairing the essence of education.

It is true that education considering the individual needs and interests of each student can give a great impetus to study. Without a variety of communication between students and teachers, in most cases, students cannot understand what the teacher says and therefore gradually become disgusted with the lessons, while the teacher still confidently impart the knowledge on the platform, lacking percipience of such situation; thus, the effectiveness is open to doubt and probably is very low, and so such education makes no sense. In fact, education should be geared to the needs of students instead of merely designed as models. What does the student mostly need? What does he or she favor? What can they not understand? How to improve the methods of teaching? Is the student frustrated? How to provide moral spirit, such as courage, persistence, tenacity, confidence? If all these questions could be answered, students will not only acquire knowledge, but also the interest to study, the courage to conquer obstacles in learning, the confidence to be excellent- that is, a more effective education is achieved under such circumstance. .

However, general education is still crucial since it provides the basic knowledge and skills for students. Though different individuals have different tastes, some basic lessons should be offered. For example, some moral concepts and statutory rules are so fundamental for the later life and a harmonious society that everyone should study, though not everyone is interested in them. Also, when it comes to the native language, the history of one’s own nation, the most basic mathematical principles or the ability of survival, certain education cannot be oversimplified for all these lessons are essential for career life and in many cases they are helpful, whatever work he or she may do. Therefore, unless taking all these fundamental education into account/consideration, education designed to the individuals and students can not be discussed.

Besides, it is unwise to utterly meet whatever students require, especially the unreasonable ones, which may lead to a chaos in education. After all, students may be immature, impulsive, whimsical, capricious, and undisciplined, and correspondingly what they choose, at some times, may be not well-arranged or even irrational. For instance, if certain students require a computer to play games for the reason that they are interested in it, then it is absurd to meet such requirement. The purpose of education is to develop the students for a qualified citizen for the future, not to coddle them as pressures. To meet the needs and interest of students is just a method to ensure the effectiveness of education, instead of developing a sense that what is required, then what will be offered.

Simply put, it is necessary for education system to design specifically to satisfy the individual needs and interests of each student in order to adjust for a more effective teaching and learning. Nevertheless, general education is still significant and can not be underestimated. And even general education is taken into consideration, the students-centered education should still be practiced with extreme care and properly guided.

读了一遍,文字感觉挺通顺的,但是第三段论述学生有时不成熟提出无理头的想法感觉有点偏,就是说把一部分学生放在一个反面的位置上,好像有点欠妥。尤其是用的几个词,像chaos,whimsical.absurd等,好像太严厉了。
我做过中学老师,我知道全世界的老师都不敢这么得罪学生,越发达的越如此。评卷的人恐怕也会有这个毛病。有些话只能在心里说,但是不可明言。
这个论点是挺好的,只是表达上也许需要缓和一点吧,呵呵。
