To solve the world's most persistent social problems, including environment, energy crisis, conflicts and wars between nations, it is imperative to promote the mutual understanding and cooperation among the young men worldwide. Under the circumstances, the statement of establishing a global university which is supported by all nations compulsorily to engage students in the process of solving these global issues makes sense. However, due to certain risks, this suggestion is uneasily put into practice and some other alternatives existing are more feasible than it to achieve the same goal.

Admittedly, the establishment of a global university is meaningful to cope with persistent social problems. By creating an ideal environment which cultivates international spirit, such school can benefit nations as a place where students worldwide can exchange ideas with other from different countries of various culture, values and belief. In this way, when address problems, students can analyze them from angles and thus deepen their appreciation on certain issues. Meanwhile, a myriad of social problems have become global that they are endangering the entire human society. For instance, of the most concerns of contemporary people is contamination of earth environment that threatens the survival of all human beings. Similarly, as the increasingly close economical connection of nations all over the world, the financial crisis in one country, just as Asian financial crisis in 1997 which break out in Tailand, can spread immediately to many other countries and have disastrous impact on global market and even render world economy into depression. Solving these problems necessitate international cooperation which a global university can promote.

Nevertheless, the establishment of such university has innate problems which inhibit achievement of its objectives. On the one hand, it is a thorny task for participants in the project need of diversified economic, political background to achieve agreements on certain issues. Especially on decision of which problem requires more attention and intellectual and financial investment, different nations hold their own opinions. The demand of reducing pollution level and research on developing clear energy may be a worthwhile consideration of developed countries while, as for less-developed countries, it is far beyond their urgent needs to facilitate their economic progress by accelerating their industrialization during which inevitably, severe pollution will be produced. How to reconcile different conflicts is a primary task confronted by nations engaged. Otherwise, one purpose of such university-combining the world's preeminent intellectual talent to solve serious issues is unlikely to realize. On the other hand, another knotty problem with global university is complicated management which is at least, never easier than administration of a multi-national cooperation. Besides arranging faculty, allocating sorts of money, installing apparatus, the avoidance of intercultural prejudices between international students is a patent hindrance that can not be ignored. Just like complex societies with large population and many competing groups, prejudices between groups within the university may become a common element of daily life, vary from good-natured rivalry to direct antipathies. The attitude the one's own culture is that naturally superior one, the standard by which all other cultures should be judged, and that cultures different from one's own are inferior is a common reaction to other's custom. Such attitude is a direct barrier to understanding among peoples of diverse customs and values. It enhances enmity between societies and can provoke conflict among students whose lives are guided by different cultures. Although through communicating with peers from other nations everyday to a certain extent which will promote mutual tolerance, students have not been rational enough to get rid of their egoism and to cooperate over boundaries of cultures, ethnic values. Consequently, to what extent that such prejudice can be reduced is open to doubt.

In order to solve enduring global problems, some other efficient and effective alternatives can be adopted. It is unnecessary and impractical to depend solely on a global university. Considering the complex nature of social problems, combination and cooperation between experts of nations through creating of forum, or founding laboratory would be more promising than a global university. For example, The Apirl 1986, Chernobyl nuclear power plant spawned the world's worst nuclear accident which remains a painful memory in the lives of the hundreds of thousands of people who were most affected by the accident. In order to prevent such catastrophe occurring again, building a strong and effective global nuclear safety regime is a central objective of our society. This requires effective international cooperation and the requirement contribute the birth of Chernobyl Forum.  By virtue of this forum, the foremost scientific experts have dedicated to analyze the lessons of what went wrong caused this accidents and conducted an exhaustive assessment of the health, environmental and social impacts of the accident. In the meantime, by giving clear, impartial answers about the accident and its effects, experts attending this forum would be able to focus more effectively on present and future needs. Better international cooperation is on assistance to the people and regions affected by the accident.

In summary, a smart approach to deal with social problems staying with people relies on eventual understanding, compromise and cooperation of nations. Establishment of a global university is by on means a indispensable way. Otherwise, any measure which can meet this requirement could be favourably alternative choice.
