Is it true that the most elusive knowledge is self-knowledge and always acquired through solitude rather than through interaction with others? I concede that the self-perception, or otherwise the self-knowledge is important for a mature individual to survive and thrive in the society, and it is difficult to grasp an accurate and stable self-knowledge. However, the self-knowledge is sometimes realized by means of compare and contrast with others as well as the solitude.
To begin with, the self-knowledge, in my view, is how people deems themselves, or in other words, how people discover their attributes and evaluate their abilities, such as whether they define themselves with tenacity, strong-mind, or diligence. And such self-knowledge is set up regularly with the accumulation of the life experiences. For an adult, it is necessary to have a strong and stable self-knowledge in that it helps to made decisions in life, set up the goals, design the career blueprints and determine the approaches to make self-advancement. In this sense, the self-knowledge possesses a life-long influence to individuals and will, to some extent, determine the life quality and self-achievements of the person. The sense of confidence, for example, which is a positive self-knowledge, will great enhance the person's determination, inspiration and diligence in the process of making achievements since confidence can heighten the courage and boldness when facing difficulties and hardships. It is a significant attribute in people's lives simply because it is the premise for a person willing to success to believe in themselves in the first place. After all, no one will trust you if you do not have faith for yourselves.
Further, a clear self-knowledge is hard to achieve because we could not always understand ourselves. It is a huge task to totally and accurately know a person, even ourselves since the human psychological constituents are so complex to understand and our state of mind are so changeful and vulnerable to the outside variations. For example, we make numbers of decisions in our lives, but we don't know how many decisions are made actually according to our own thoughts and ideas without the influence of the environments. We purchase because we are induced by the advertisements or the trends of popularity, we rarely recognize our own needs. Our aesthetic views are determined by the super stars, the pop magazines and other media not sourced form our internal world. We sometimes just follow the trend rather than explorer our own thoughts. In this situation, it is hard to realize ourselves, what kind of people we are? Which are my advantages and disadvantages? It demands meditation and self-reflection to know who we are, and we have to discover our pros and cons by ourselves. In order to acquire a better self-knowledge, we cannot be driven by the seemingly authorities outside ourselves but to follow our own heart and explore our abilities.
However, though the self-knowledge could be achieved by self-retrospect and other forms of individual thinking activities, the accurate and precise self-knowledge has to achieve though both the individual solitude and the interaction with others. I always think about the original reason why people are divided into ones who have strong confidence and other who have little. It mustn't be the natal diverse since there are no indication that people are determined before birth. In my opinion, It is the experience that determines the self-attitude of a person and in turn determine their lives. A person who is always encouraged by teachers and parents are more likely to become confident, or otherwise a positive self-knowledge. Moreover, a person who is always doing better than peers tends to build a strong self-trust. To the contrary, people who are always criticized and scolded may lose heart and are not willing to keep on struggling. In this sense, consider that the natural situation of human beings are mostly the same, it is the environment that determine how the people conceive themselves.
To sum up, the self-knowledge is important for people to live in the society since it help us to success, and it is difficult to grasp an accurate and stable self-knowledge. It is through the collaboration between the interaction with others and the self-perception that lead to a positive and accurate self-knowledge.
