TOPIC: ISSUE4 - "No field of study can advance significantly unless outsiders bring their knowledge and experience to that field of study."
WORDS: 676 TIME: 50:18 DATE: 2007-1-1
With the development of our human knowledge systems, it is said that every study should bring the extrarous knowledge and experience to its field in order to advance significantly. So do we need to bring the outsider’s knowledge and experience to further the development of a specific field of study? In my opinion, in order to advance in a efficient way, both the extrarous and introrous knowledge and experience are necessarily needed for a specific field’s development.
Firstly, it is obvious that a field of study does benefit from other domain which may turn out to be totally irreverent by appearance. For example, the structure of the microcosmical atomics are first imagined in a scientifically architectural way, then worked out through mathematical models and finally was testified through the use of microscope which has much to do with the optics areas. Other subjects like the arts and literature are also heavily relied on other knowledge domains to develop further in a more efficient way.
Da Vinci is a good example of using the maths tools and ways to create his great work menarisa, and since his time, art learners almost has a common method of drawing which is in many ways totally the application of mathematics in the art field. And the true advance in literature actually has a lot to do with the philosophy fields and what material world a writer or poemor are in such as jobs and majors directly influence his feeling and expression ways of deep hidden emotions. Therefore most fields of study advanced efficiently and profoundly with the assistance of extrarous information, inspires and knowledge domains.
What's more, as we are in a world full of all kinds of highly perfect symmetrical counterparts, sometimes different things has the same laws in the same ways. And if we compare the advance of a specific discipline to the growth of a person, it is not hard to understand that outsider's information , ways and experience is of great value to our own development. We need to communicate with the outside world and exchange the information we need to better our life and growth. So does the development of a scientific fields, without outsider's fresh idea and inspires from other domains, no success or even continuity of the fields cannot be ensured. After all, no fields exists in vacuum which is absolutely separated from others. And considering the reality is a complicated web with integrity, to apply one specific knowledge to the real world ,all kinds of knowledge from many fields are needed to deal with all sorts of situations in the application process, that's why we now work as a team or group to do some big projects such as the Gene Projects.
However, without the firm and continuous inside knowledge systems, a fields is also hard to advance significantly even hard to exist in a scientifical and expertise fields. And if we retrospect on the time when the augurs use the way of constellation to judge the situation or anticipate the future circumstances, they do use all kinds of outside knowledge and experience to their field, but their whole knowledge system was finally broke down with the invention of the telescope, which testified that their idea is totally wrong from the beginning. What's more, some subjects like the academical maths and the philosophy theories can hardly directly related to other subjects and have something to do with the reality, but actually, they have moved on from the originality of our human history without stop.
Therefore, i think the extrarous and introrous knowledge and experience are the two necessary elements for a field to advance greatly and efficiently. Either one of the two elements missing may results in a in-efficient development of the subjects with a slower speed , or even the total disappear of the fields such as the fields of superstition.
