1,            的确满足个体需要符合个体兴趣的教育会非常有效
2,            但是要做到满足每个人的要求是很困难的
1)怎么确定他们要什么,和他们的兴趣是什么;
由他们自己决定:很少人尤其是年轻人会知道自己的兴趣是什么,或者自己需要哪些知识
由教育者决定:教育者经过长时间的经验知道应该给他们教哪些知识,但是其离他们想要的还有距离。也许一个很有经验的教育者在经过长时间的观察后会发现孩子的真正兴趣所在,但是这样做成本太高了
2)接着怎么设计我们的教育体系去实现这一目标
需要太多老师来满足每个孩子的需要不现实



The speaker asserts that the only way for education to be effective is to be respectively designed for every student to meet their particular needs and interest. This suggestion might be tempting to accept at the first glance, however,  it is not very practical in today’ world.

Admittedly, emphasis on individual need and interest do good to students. Because every student is an identical one, with different characteristics, consequently different interests and need. There are at least three virtues if education can specifically designed for each student. First, different method could be used towards different students according to their ways to absorb knowledge. Some students learn better under strict discipline and tutor, some might be enough instructed by discussing the problem they find on books with teachers, and so on. It is salutary especially for the genius. Traditional class education may seems not enough for most students, personal tutor from teachers required to meet the individual needs. Secondly, the potential of students could be discovered and cultivated under enough care and instruction from the teachers. Most students do a better job in certain courses that meet their interested and capability, specifically designed education system could find out which one in these course might truly reflect their potential ability and could be the career they pursuit in their later life, which in traditional education system sounds like an illusion. Thirdly, the moral need of the students could be met which is important both for them and the society. More communication between teachers and students complement the lack of emotion exchange in traditional education.

However, it is impossible for education to satiate the individual need for two compelling reasons. First of all, how we find out what students really need is difficult. It is doubtful we let themselves to choose the course they wanted, because they are yet to mellow and some of their thoughts are still naïve and capricious. Nor do their parents could fulfill these task, many of the parents hold subjective view towards their children and put their own expectation beyond the capability of the children. So it is better to combine students, parents and proficient educators all in the deciding process, which might take a long way to reach a conclusion. Yet this time-consuming process could possibly not valid in proving the right answer due to the limitation of educator’s capability.

In addition, how to design the education system to reach the need of the individual is still questionable. It sounds like attractive to have teachers devote to meet the individual need and cultivate the children’s interest. However, it may require one teacher only focus on several children, even one-to-one cultivation which is unfeasible take into account of our limited resource. Although problem facing the learning of knowledge could probably be solved by the development and popularizing of E-learning, the face-to-face communication with teachers still required for a complete education process.


In sum, as we can conclude from the discussion above, although specifically education might do good to students, however, with the difficult in identify the need of students and limited faculty resources, it is unpractical for us to devoted to this unwieldy goal.
