TOPIC: ISSUE103 - "The study of history has value only to the extent that it is relevant to our daily lives."
WORDS: 465         TIME: 上午 01:40:51          DATE: 2007-1-4

Is the study of history valuable only when it is relevant to our daily lives, as the speaker alleges? I agree with the speaker's allegation that the study of history is valuable when it is relevant to our day-to-day lives. However, the speaker unnecessarily limits the range benefiting from study of history only to our daily lives, while ignoring certain compelling reasons that the study of history may be instructive to sorts of realms.

Admittedly, the study of history has grand value to our daily lives. By looking back to the events happened in the past we know how to deal with the problems we face in the daily lives. Consider, for instance, the study of historical long lived men or women gives us suggestions on healthy life with no cigarettes, little wine, more vegetables and little meat. And this is valuable as it can give guidance to our everyday lives.

Notwithstanding the foregoing reason that it is instructive to study history to our daily lives, we have to concede that study of history is valuable to more than day-to-day lives. One compelling argument in favor of this has to do with the fact that we can learn from history to keep the world peaceful. It is known to all that peace and development are the main themes of the twenty-first century, and we can learn from the history of all the wars- no matter just or unjust- are huge disasters to human beings, which brought death, riots, hunger, disintegrative of families, and epidemic of illness. The eventual victims of the war are innocent residents. By studying the history of wars, we can avoid repeating those behaviors which are harmful to human beings yet through political negotiations and some other political approaches. Thus, the study of history has far more value beyond its effect on the day-to-day lives.

Another compelling argument supports the study of history has more value on other aspects besides daily lives involving the using of nuclear energy. We all know as a clean and recycling energy the nuclear energy has lots of advantages compared to traditional expensive and contaminative coal power. But without research on the nuclear accidents which happened in Chernobyl in the history, we shall never know how to take precaution to prevent this kind of accidents and ensure the security of nuclear energy. Therefore, study of history can enlighten us to find more reliable solutions to the events happened in the past but still exist nowadays which is relevant to the security of environment and hard-pressed shortage of energy today.

In sum, the study of history is valuable to many aspects far beyond the impact to our daily lives.
And we should learn from the history to gain more inspiration and guidance to make our future much better.

去掉 the events happened in the past we know how to deal with the problems we face in the daily lives. 这个是不情愿的承认 that study of history is valuable to more than day-to-day lives. One compelling argument in favor of this has to do with the fact that we can learn from history to keep the world peaceful. 这篇比较难写,你的论证集中在only daily lives上,采取了平衡观点。找对了关键,例子也比较好,我感觉你有些句子用的非常流畅但有些地方又非常中式化,总体水平相当不错,羡慕………….
