The following appeared in a letter sent by a committee of homeowners from the Deerhaven Acres to all homeowners in Deerhaven Acres.
"Seven years ago, homeowners in nearby Brookville community adopted a set of restrictions on how the community's yards should be landscaped and what colors the exteriors of homes should be painted. Since then, average property values have tripled in Brookville. In order to raise property values in Deerhaven Acres, we should adopt our own set of restrictions on landscaping and housepainting."
By citing the situation of Brookville(B) community’s yard seven years ago and the property values of B since then, the aruger concludes that in Deerhaven Acres(DA), we should also consider to adopt the restrictions on landscaping and housepainting. Several faults with both the assumption and evidence will reveral (reveal) how groundless the conclusion is.
To begin with, the arguer based on an assumption that the method B adopted on the landscaping and painting of exteriors of homes actually had a causal relation with the increasing of property values in B since that time, but gives no evidence to support that. It is in all likehood that during the last seven years, the economic situation of the whole nation experienced a high increase, thus the average property value of B also increased greatly; or it might be the case that from seven years ago, B became famous because of newly found historic site, the development of tourism lead to the increase of property value. Without ruling out all these possible reasons, the arguer’s assumption is questionable.

perhaps government constituted advantaged policy for the development of B and strengthened the funding on conmercial plan and business district in B. therefore, HA has not experienced these benefits from the policy. Thus, people tend to invest property in B in order to gain more profit in future rather than In HA.
Even if we could accept the arguer’s assumption that the property value in B tripled in last seven years due to the restrictions on the landscripe and painting, whether the experience from B could be extended to DA is still open to doubt. First, the restrictions were made seven years ago, at that time, the world is not that open and rapidly change. The residence at that time might be acceptable or even favoriate, to the restricted style of decorating. Nowadays, it has been a trend to pursue no-restrictied design and free-mind style, whether the uniform style could be accepted by the people now is questionable. To better support the conclusion, the arguer need to give out a survey based on the resident in DA to show if people have inclination to the restricted home style.
those who invest property in B may concentrate more concerning the surounding and comfortability if living there, such as hospital service, community untilities, traffic condition and so forth.
Furthermore, assuming that seven years does not change people too much on the choosing of style of landscaping and housepainting, we still could not be pursued(persuaded) before taking into account the possible differences between B and AD. It is entirely possible that DA also have a great increase in the property value in the last several years, thus the restrictions, though effective in B, maybe could not stimulate the already very high property value in DA. Also, the choosing of the community is actually very complex; it may be affected by several other considerations like the locatioin of the community, the convinence of transportion, even the sports ground around it. Merely assuming that change the decorating of community would lead to rasing of property value is quite hastily.
To sum up, the argument is groundless as it stands. To make it more convincing, the arguer need to give enough support that the triple of the property value in B actually due to the restrictions on landscaping and housepainting, also, considering the possible difference between B and DA, also seven years ago and now, a survey regarding the preferences of residents in DA is needed to give convictive evidence for the conclusion.

小建议 1. 先分析两地经济状况不同( 政府的优先政策)
2. 分析人的不同 (七年的时间改变了审美观,对房子的要求可能变了)
3. 错误类推 (比如B的环境好于H, 交通便利,人们在这里投资会有收益)
