Are tradition and modernization mutually exclusive from each other, as the speaker asserts? Although I concede that we have to choose between the two in some cases, in most cases, modernization does not reject tradition for it evolves from tradition. In addition, sometimes a balance between tradition and modernization serves a better job for our society than either of them singly.[开头段很好,起到了统领全文的效果]
Admittedly, tradition and modernization are incompatible in certain fields. [在这里加个衔接 词会更好些,如for instance]Nowadays, there is a tendency that more and more rural people come into center cities, and therefore these cities call for more buildings for public than in past. However, the historical architectures, as the representatives of tradition, take up a large amount of land in these cities, which is often the best choice for the new buildings in plan. Hence, it is quite common to see arguments on newspapers about whether a certain historical building that is representative of the city's thousands of year’s history should be razed down for new school or hospital for public? Apparently, in this circumstance, we must choose one between tradition and modernization.
Nevertheless, when it comes to other fields, such as technology, art, modernization is an extension and evolution from tradition. Along with the development of modern technology, we enjoy more convenience that cannot be imagined in past. For example, the time span we travel from one place to another is shorter due to the high-speed vehicle; we can download information from internet without cables connected to certain server. Do these all the result of modernization? Certainly not. Modern technology develops based on traditional technology. Today's high-speed train develops from traditional stream engine; wireless network is built on the principle of cable network and other existed technology. In art fields, things almost the same. Although today's popular music, such as Hip-Pop, R&B, and Rock and Roll seems far away from classic music, its essence, such as tone, rhythm, and scale, inherits from classic music. Moreover, there is a tendency that elements of modern popular music begin to melt with classical music. And this kind of music becomes popular with both the youth and the olds. Accordingly, tradition often the basis of modernization, and modernization develop from tradition but not exclusive from tradition.[这段 非常的perfect, 层次很清楚,语言很连惯]
Furthermore, sometimes a balance between tradition and modernization serves to improve our society than either of them singly. This point is true especially when it comes to education. Early in Edison's times, he asserted that schools would disappear from the world due to the widely used of films in education one day. However, traditional schools still play an essential role in our modern education. In 1950s, people realize that the computer can assist education for its several merits: repeatable, never tired, vivid, etc.. From then on, government has invested large amount of finance to support computer based education. At that time, people believed once again that computer based education would replace traditional school someday. However, the result disappoints many educational experts -- computer based education bring its merits as well as its flaws, such as inflexible, without emotion, too many information for children and so on. Eventually, educational experts find a better way to teach students -- blended learning. Blended learning is a way for student to learn mainly from the traditional instruction of teachers and to learn supplement knowledge by the assistance of computer. In short, the cooperation of tradition and modernization bring about a better result than either of them works singly. [这段也非常的好,例子很恰当,语言很流利]
In sum, in the tide of modernization, it is inevitable that sometimes we should choose between tradition and modernization. However, we should recognize that, since tradition often refers to a long history’s wisdom, simply rejecting all tradition equals to large amount of waste.
