TOPIC: ISSUE159 - "The human mind will always be superior to machines because machines are only tools of human minds."

The human mind will be superior to machines which are only tools of human minds, as the speaker asserts. If the conception of superiority is only concerned with emotion, intelligence and the way of thinking, I strongly agree with this assertion. However, considering other aspects, I concede that sometimes machines are really superior to the human mind.

Machines are invented and used as tools of human minds. Consider cars and planes which are used to make people travel to other place more conveniently and efficiently. And computer, a kind of mechine which can calculate and count, is indispensable when people was doing complex work with a mass of information. Almost all the machines have main or auxiliary use for people, among which I have not found out a single exception. The wide-spread demand of tools accounts for why people create so many machines.

Without the ability to consider by themselves, every action the machines do is exactly according to what has designed by human beings. Someone opposing the statement may enumerate the examples of the thinking abilities of machines as well as the correst responses machines making, such as a mobile telephone can find the right list on the telephone book according to what the master says. However, instead of considering, what the machines really do is comparing the information outside with the programme installed inside and acting as what they are expected to do according to the programme projected before. Although some kind of machines can also 'remember' some new information they encounter, just like what human beings always do, despite of the so-called intelligence, they have not get away from the control from humanity.

However, it is not to say human beings are superior to machines all the time. If so, it is no use for human to create and keep machines. Pondering the significance of machines, there must be some aspects human have to turn to the them. The use of computers illustrates this point well. The ability of calculating and counting a mass of numbers within a second, with which a group of people should work for many years using abacus and paper, that is what computer can provide to the people. Without the invention of computers how could human calculate the ratio of the circumference to the diameter of the circle as precisely as today? Thanks to the assembly line of machines, the efficiency of working is improved tremendously. Machines are so efficient and precise when doing rote tasks that no human is able to be compared with. In this case, how could our human beings despise the machines and consider we are superior to them?

In sum, although the machines can not consider all by themselves, the ability of doing rato work of them is superior to human which helps human beings so much. For all the machines are made in the purpose of helping human do rato tasks and other works, it is a good way to make full use of the advantages of them instead of felling superior to them. Only paying full attention to the superiority of the machines can human beings make better use of these significant tools.
