13"Many of the world's lesser-known languages are being lost as fewer and fewer people speak them. The governments of countries in which these languages are spoken should act to prevent such languages from becoming extinct."

Position: strongly agree with the speaker.

1.       Admittedly, the main purpose of language is to communicate, and the lesser-know languages’ function of communication is becoming weaker and weaker with the fact that lesser people are willing to speak them. People usually have inclination to learn a language that is wildly used, such as English. It would be much easier for them to communicate with foreigners and help to make progress through learning.

2.       On the other hand, languages are the carriers of cultures. If a language is altered greatly or even distinguished, the culture is inevitably impacted as a result. Thus, for the sake of preventing the native cultures, the government should take action to encourage people use native language. For this aim, some countries even enacted law. For example, in French law, many words listed cannot be altered by English.

3.       Moreover, take a comprehensive view of the world, a unique language will ultimately bring to a uniform culture. This situation obviously breaches the diversity that we advocate today. A uniform culture will even constrain the pace of democracy and equality.

Conclusion: Although people who speak lesser-known languages face problems caused by inconvenient problems, however, its governments’ responsibility to encourage and provide some privileges to those people to continuously speak their own languages. It is not only for the sake of prevention native cultures, but also for the sake of world’s democracy and peace.
