TOPIC: ISSUE130 - "How children are socialized today determines the destiny of society. Unfortunately, we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society."

The speaker hold the opinion that how the way of socialization of children today determines the destiny of society, yet I hardly agree with the statement, and the problem of how to raise the children may be more complex than we think originally.

Generally, the destiny of society is referred to the progress the society has made and the obligation the society has obtained. Based on this, I think the education of children, which include the academic education and the moral education determines the destiny of the society, not their socialization.

To begin with, the academic education of children is the engine power of the progress of the society. Today, the rapid progress has been witnessed by people all around the world, cell-phones make people communicate with others anytime anywhere they want, internet enables people to get to know the world even if they don't go outside, cars and planes carry us to the destination far away from our home... what had contributed to this vast change in our life-----the expotential development science and technology. And how can we expect the improvement of our life through the progress of science and technology? It is only by educating children in their academics can this goal achieved. Therefore, children's academic education is crucial to the progress of the society.

On the other hand, moral education of children ensures us the right way the society take steps to improve. Let us consider the society as a boat which is about to sail to one definate place across the sea, then the academic education is like the engine of a boat , and the moral education is like the compass which will guide it to the correct direction, and we can undoubtedly conclude that the boat will be lost in the vast sea without compass no matter how fast it can sail. Hence, the moral education determines the direction of the goal that the society ought to attained.

Some may argue that without the socialization of children, they will forever contained in the theory ivory and never come out to put what they learnt into practice, thus do the society no good. It's true that the children should relate what they have grasped in the school to the real life, in order to realize the value of the academic knowledge and push the society forward. Yet it is just the ensure factor of the progress of the society, not the decisive one. Only through academic and moral education can the children gain the power to improve the society and make it progress toward the correct direction.

Last but not least, how to raise children is a complex problem in that the society is changing time to time and we cannot know exactly what kind of talents the society require. However, there is no doubt that one person with knowledge and morality is useful to the progress of the society. For that matter, we needn't to excessively worry about that we don't know what kind of people we should cultivate our children to be, although adapting children to the changing of the circumstances is necessary. What we really concern about is to ensure that they can get a good education both in academics and morality.

In sum, the destiny of society require us to make effort to progress and ensure to progress in the right direction, therefore, it is the education in academics and morality of children to determine the destiny of the society. Besides, as we try to guarantee the children with the education, the adapting of them to the needs of the society cannot be neglected, which will serve to the destiny of the society.
