This argument is well presented, but it isn’t thoroughly well reasoned. The committee of Deerhaven Acres homeowners recommends that in order to enchance Deerhaven proverty values homeowners should follow certain restrictions concerning their homes’ exterior appearance. To support this recommendation, the committee points out that in the seven years since Brookvill adopted similar restrictions proverty values there have risen. At first glance, the argument seems very convincing. A careful examination, however, will reveal how groundless it is.
In the first place, the committee fails to consider other possible alternatives to the increasing proverty values after the adoption of restriction concerning homes’ exterior appearance in nearby Brookvill. These alternatives may include the fact that the demand for housing in Brookvill has increased due to an influx of major employers. Additionally, the supply of housing has decreased. Furthermore, it may be possible that it is due to nice transportation, improved facilities and so on that proverty values in Brookvill have increased, not due to the restriction concerning homes’ exterior appearance. So the restrictions concerning homes’ exterior appearance don’t necessarily lead to the increasing of proverty values.
In the second palce, even if the increasing of proverty values in Brookvill results from the restriction of their homes’ exterior appearance .the proverty values in Deerhaven doesn’t necessarily enchance by adopting similar restriction. The committee ignores the different conditions between these two different palces. For instance, potential Deerhaven home-buyers might be less interested in a home’s exterior appearance than Brookvill home-buyers. For that matter, perhaps Deerhaven home- buyers would find consistent exterior appearance a distastefull feature. In this case, adopting these restrictions might actually tend to decrease the proverty values.
Overall, the reasoning behind adopting restrictions concerning homes’ exterior appearance seems logical as presentd above since the people in Deerhaven are acting in their own best interests. However, before any final decisions are made about the adoption of restriction homes’ exterior appearance. The committee of Deerhaven should evaluate all possible alternatives and causes for the increasing of proverty values compared to Brookvill.
