Issue 152
Under the pressure of severe competition between countless powerful rivals, the major duty of an executive in a company is making money by all possible ways which would no doubted[undoubtedly] include investment, human resource management, building senior leaders team, setting company culture and so on. And most of all, all these activities[不大规范], no matter in or out[为什么要用个out呢?] of the company should stay consistent with related local regulations and national law. Besides, company is an element of the whole society and thus has the ability and responsibility of [commonweal, such as] protecting the environment and the society’s stability. In other words, a company’s executives have the obligation of serving the people and the society. Only in this way, the company would survive and prosperity in long term.[第一段写费了不少时间吧]
First and foremost, money is the only thing that all people live by[how about water, oxygen?], and for a better life the utmost target[for本来就是表目的,这儿又来个target, better life and make money到底谁是目的?] of establishing a company is making money. Consequently, an executive exerts almost all of his/her intelligence on making profits. Most of executives’ duties aim at making the maximal profit out of the labor force and raw materials, or any other possibilities that could reduce the cost[还有扩大销售]. For example, those entrepreneurs are eager to enter the Chinese market since the open-up policy brought into effect in 1984, for the reason that the working force price is much lower than that in America, and therefore reduce the producing cost of products.
However, the keep changing economical market and political environment often make the current law lag far behind, which results in the embarrassing situation that even companies conform to laws and regulations there still exists the room[用space更好] for irrational profit-pursuit deeds on the sacrifice of consumers, environment or the society in which those businesses operate. On condition that the current laws cannot prevent potential harmful activities in business domain, the executives have another responsibility of obeying the ethical regulations by way of constructing beneficial company culture surroundings. [这个观点不错]
Work gets done through people and people are profoundly affected by culture[为什么不用个从句呢who are…]. Take power saving as an example, as the popularization of on-line commerce, computers are largely used by companies. The on-line chatting and e-mail can save the long distance calling fees by a large scale. However, the consumption of electricity power is increasing dramatically; on the other hand the price of power is rising quickly. This adds the cost also, especially when a lot of people have no habit of turning off the screen after leaving offices. If company executives build a culture that saving power is a virtue that deserves a promotion, employees would more likely form a habit of turning off screen when not used. [我觉得节约用电是全民的应该追求的一种美德或者习惯,而不能算作企业文化吧。个人观点] Consequently, the expense of maintaining a company would reduce and finally serves the interests of consumers and society as a whole.
Businesses[bussiness] operate in society and thus have to undertake the societal responsibility in addition to maximize the profit and to compliance with the letter of the law.[这个短语什么意思?] By investing in potentially profitable technological researches or sponsoring meaningful humanity studies, a company would build up a reputation which may gain more consumers in the long run and benefit the company itself. Nowadays, many renowned entrepreneurs have been built a close relation with famous universities[与学校建立关系是承担社会责任的体现吗?或者改成为学校捐款设立奖学金] or research institutions. This relation benefits the development of technology and also the prosperity of businesses. [对社会责任的理解有点偏差,我觉得重点应放在企业要对社会多做贡献上]
In sum, profit maximization is not the sole responsibility of company executives within the bounds of law; they have to take on the obligation of serving the consumers, employees, and the society in which they operate. Only in this way, the businesses would survive and then prosper in the increasing competition market.
