The statement presented above is that artist rather than critic provide the something of lasting valve to the society. Lasting value showed by the art is able to be defined as a great impact, which is generated by art, on society in a long enough period. It is a complicated problem that how to evaluate the value of artwork, due to lack of unique benchmark to assess the merit involved in the works of art.  But, art actually has its own value that it deserves, including both material and artistic aspects. In my opinion, it is the artist who creates the things with eternal value, while the critic just finds it.

The great value inside the artistic productions is an external exhibition of artist's internal spirit. When a piece of artwork comes out, the inborn value follows, no matter whether it is recognized by the society or not. The unique value presented in the opus may be different, because it belongs to different fields or it exists in different eras, and it has disparate degrees of contribution to propelling the progress of society. Even though the difference among art value is tremendous, none can deny the great value which can keep a long period. Balzac, a famous novel writer, composed many novels, which win universal praise, laying out a vivid picture of nineteen century in French. All his works reveal a true world inside human, which have a significant effect on the development of literature and guide the action of following people. All the value is originate from the artist.

The critic contributes a lot to the discovery of artistic value, which is almost equal important compared to the creation. The opus produced by the artist demonstrate an outcome of thinking, which is not able be understood by every people. The popularization of artistic value needs the great effort of critic, although not all the evaluation is made appropriately. The critic is usually well educated and informed, who is insightful and makes evaluation that can influence the attitude of society. To some extent, the critic decides the value of artistic work. In China, there is a kind of gratitude called boon of being known, a similar relationship between the critic and value of art.

There are two kinds of levels which could describe the value contained by the art: immanent level and perceivable level. The immanent value, the external outpouring of artist, has a feature of permanence, no matter whether it receives the acknowledgement or not. The perceivable value, a attitude taken on by the multitude, is led crucially by the critic. Something with enormous immanent value possible has little material value, a representative form of perceivable value. But in special situation, antique that just a piece of artworks produced in archaic era, is able to sale in an unbelievable high price, simply due to that lack is expensive. Both immanent value and perceivable value could last for a long time, but the perceivable value, including material and spiritual value, represents itself better.

To sum up, the accomplishment of artist is product of human's civilization, which is constructed by people, especially artist. While the critic assists multitude to wake up to the value. Artist and critic, an outstanding representative of the masses, both give society something of lasting value.
