As to the non-mainstream areas of inquiry as astrology, fortune-telling, and psychic and paranormal pursuits, some people hold the idea that they are fake science because they are lack of the supports of a great deal of statistical data and thousands of reliable experiments which are the basis of mainstream science such as Physics, Biology, Chemistry and so on. However, the above non-mainstream areas still play a certain part in society by comforting the instinct world of a person and providing another way to understand and discover this world.

First of all, the non-mainstream studies pay more attention to the fate of a human being, his or her spirits and characters which lead to the fate and what he or she should do to face both good lucks and bad lucks. Although someone thinks the prediction and analysis sounds unwarranted, one has to admit the gifted characters and environments around him or her affect his present life and perhaps life in the future a lot. The non-mainstream mentioned above could help you not only to know more about your shortcomings and avoid it ruin your work and life, but also to teach you how to treat the things appearing in your life objectively and calmly. It satisfies mankind’s interests of the exploration of inner world and increases the people’s capacities of outside world.

Secondly, compared to the sense which has already filled in all the mainstream science fields, the non-mainstream science makes us to explore our world with our intuition and a point of view that nothing is isolated. The institution, which always can lead to new discovery and cannot be explained by logical theory, to a scientist is as important as the common sense to a manager of a company. One more example of the contribution of the non-mainstream science is the comprehensive views which never restrict the study within some certain realms. As to astrology which is a synthetic subject in fact besides future prediction, one very important theory that also attracts the mainstream scientists within the astrological system is that everything has its root and subsequence and each two things are related.

However, one has to adopt an objective attitude to the non-mainstream science because it has the negative effect if it is not studies and used properly. One example to illustrate that is some people cheat others by fortune-telling in China and the only purpose is to earn money. They make full use of the phcycological (physiological) weakness of the people who are not well-educated. What is more, the non-mainstream science stops the development of local economic and the publication of mainstream science in some developing areas because of the misunderstanding.

In sum, the non-mainstream areas of inquiry do help us to explore both inside and outside worlds. It plays very important role in our society as an effective supplement to mainstream science. However, we have to develop it and make its positive effectiveness benefits us, while being aware that it may prevent the society from making progress if been considered negative.
