题目:ISSUE208 - "The way people look, dress, and act reveals their attitudes and interests. You can tell much about a society's ideas and values by observing the appearance and behavior of its people."
Do we known much about a society's ideas and values according to observing the appearance and behavior of its people? The speaker claims so, for the reason that the way people look, dress, and act reveals their attitudes and interests. I fundamentally agree with the assertion. Nevertheless, in my view we can tell much about a society's ideas and values in other ways.
It is true that the assertion is clearly accurate insofar as the appearance is a symbol of a nation. For supporting example, one need look no further than a society’s dress. In china, it is conspicuous that the dress of people in the 1960's is different largely from in the 2000 for the reason the economic development has been more and more increasing in the past forty yeas, especially from the 1980. At the same time, ideas and values of china has been varied from various of the dress. In the 1960's, people liked the same blue clothe, which reveals a simple value of people. However, in the 2000, people have much more choice about dress, especially the young people-they much more like dress international brand clothe, which reveals a value that people is much more international.
Moreover, it is widely acknowledged that the behavior of a society' people can tell much about its ideas and values. Consider, for example, in the diverse time, according the behavior of footing of people, their ideas and values are cognized. In the ancient, people were floating about their time but in modern time people are hurriers. Thus, we can not emphasize the importance of the appearance and behavior of its people, which can tell us much about a society's ideas and values.
Under some circumstances, otherwise, it might be counterproductive. Common sense informs, for example, that it is a mistake to attempt to judge a society's ideas and value only according to observing the appearance and act of its people in that in sometime a society's appearance and behavior is obliged by the government, and is not a reveal of their inner ideas and values. For instance, during Ching, people are asked to remain long-haired and if they do not so, then they will be killed by the government. However, it is the food and the culture of a society that also can tell much about the ideas and values of a society in the different times.
In sum, from the appearance and behavior of a society's people we can gain their attitudes and interests, which also can tell us much about its ideas and values. However, if we judge a society’s ideas and value only according to the acts and attitudes, then we might gain a misunderstanding about a society's values and ideas.
