七-八年代的南气院正是英才云集啊!其中不少也是大气所的光荣,如Jin Feifei, Zou Xiaolei, Liu Yongqiang,Zhang Minghua 都是在大气所获得了博士学位。ZHU XUN是否在大气所读过我不太清楚,但那时他和巢先生、陈英仪的学术商榷很精彩啊。Zhang Minghua在大气所的博士论文是做连续谱的。(曾先生给我们讲大气动力学课,问了很多问题,其中有一个就和连续谱有关:连续谱中某个(k,l)(k, l为波数)的能量密度是多少?答案是:0。那时对动力学感兴趣的,都会去所图书馆读读那本挺厚,现在看起来很老式的论文。)
Jin Feifei在大气所时是朱抱真先生的硕士生,因为他的硕士论文很优秀,被授予博士学位,他也因此成为大气所自己培养的第一位气象学博士,是不是中国自己培养的第一位我不太清楚。
Zou Xiaolei是师从叶先生和吴老师的,做的好象是和青藏高原有关的大气环流方面研究。
Liu Yongqiang师从叶先生和季劲钧老师,是国内最早做陆面过程的气候学效应的。
我知道的不多,请知情的大虾补充。这份群英谱对我们较年轻的学人是很好的激励啊。向他们学习!

I personally think that each paper can be considered a mini-academic autobiography of a NIM alumnus author. The oversea NIM alumni have always been proud of the home institute since we owe our success largely to the valuable education the home institute gave us. The oversea NIM alumni and home institute are often in contact through various channels. I believe NIMBUS (NIM By US) sent a congratulation cable to the home institute on its 40th anniversary celebration. Past lives and current developments in the home institute are the most frequently discussed topics in various gatherings/parties among the oversea NIM alumni. As a matter of fact, the home institute has also been in our minds through the whole paper collection activity. Here, as an example, I like to show a paragraph excerpted from an early e-mail message sent to all the authors by the editorial committee:
“In addition to commemorating Professor Jijia Zhang the editorial committee thinks that the paper collection will also serve several other purposes. It will raise the academic status/fame of our old school NIM from where we all received our valuable education. It will also bring the old schoolmates closer academically by learning what other friends have done before and/or are doing currently. It may further serve a role of introducing some of the frontier researches in the meteorological sciences into our motherland. Therefore, we expect a high quality/standard of this paper collection. ……”
Based on this paragraph alone, one may safely say that the home institute has been a partial drive to many authors who produced high quality papers by using the times and efforts mostly outside their regular work assignments. I personally believe that so far we are doing a great job in terms of achieving all the objectives the editorial committee set at the very early stage of this paper collection activity. Let me actually tell you one example based on my own experience about “…… bring the old schoolmates closer academically by learning what other friends ……”. I knew very little about “data-model assimilation” before because I had never worked on the subject. However, after reading Xiaolei Zou’s tutorial paper (“Some Concepts and Methods of Atmospheric Data Assimilation – A Tutorial Note”) for only 1.7 times, I was able to (pretending to be an expert to = speaking in a confident tone) give advice to other beginners about data-model assimilation researches. This was also the main reason I once said:“If one is interested in data assimilation, I think this paper alone will worth the price one is going to pay for the whole book”. |
