TOPIC: ISSUE83 - "Government should preserve publicly owned wilderness areas in their natural state, even though these areas are often extremely remote and thus accessible to only a few people."
WORDS: 639 TIME: 0:37:37 DATE: 2007-3-19
Should government preserve publicly owned wilderness areas in their nature state, as the speaker asserts? In my view, I strongly agree with the speaker because confirmed that the wilderness areas need to be preserved and it is the government’s responsibility to make it.
To begin with, the first reason why I fundamentally agree with the speaker is the fact that many valuable species are facing the threatening of extinction. As we all know, in many wilderness areas, there are a lot of endangered species. At the same time, many organs on their body are very valuable for people. Therefore, most of these organs can be sold in a high price. Hence, in order to earn this profit, although these areas are often extremely remote, there are still many hunters spare no effort to go to these wilderness areas to capture these species wilderness. And the hunting has already led to the extinction of many species. Under such circumstance, the government should establish strict law against such illegal action. Without this kind of law, more and more valuable species will be extinction. To shed light on this assertion one needs look no further than the Chinese tiger, one of the most valuable animals in the world. In ancient time, there are thousands of hundreds of this kind of animals living in China. Yet, due to the over-hunting of many people, this kind of tiger has recently been reported to be extinct by the researchers. Therefore, in order not to avoid the occurrence of the extinction of other valuable species, the government should try their best to oppose this kind of hunting.
Another reason why I generally agree with this statement is the fact that environmental pollution in some of these areas is extremely perilous. Nowadays, with the high development of industrialization, the society are facing more and more serious pollution problem. Numerous factories were built and thus a lot of polluted water was emitted every day to the water. Since the water in river will flow, it is nature that with the flow of water many chemical materials will be transmitted to these wilderness areas. As a result, many plants will absorb and many animals will drink this kind of polluted water thus threatening the life of them. When we consider the DDT, we can see no reason to deny this assertion. Now researchers have found that in the stomach of many animals in wilderness areas there were many element of DDT-one kind of pesticide was once used for a long time. So, at this time, an effective way solve this problem is that the government send some experts there to cope with this environmental problem. Through this way we can preserve many species which are now endangered due to the modernization of human beings.
The third reason why I agree with the speaker is due to the fact that tourism is becoming popular in some wilderness areas. With the development of transportation, many wilderness areas which were remote extremely are accessible for the people. Meanwhile, due to the curiosity of human beings, many people go to these place to take a risk and have a relax. However, many people do not know how to protect these places. They dump the trash everywhere and thus making the environment there become much worse. Moreover, due to the existence of human beings, the living habit of many animals have changed and thus causing the imbalance of ecosystem. Therefore, government should establish relevant laws to restrict the tourists to such places and instill people with the knowledge about the importance of protecting these places.
All in all, from what has been discussed above, we can safely draw our conclusion that due to the development of technology, most of these wilderness areas are suffering more and more serious problems. It is the responsibility of the government to try their best to preserve these areas thus preserving the whole earth. |
